Early Childhood
Vasco Painter, (born Vasco Melixian) was the child of well-off Oronian farmers. When his parents died in 1925, he inherited their farm, with his aunt and uncle listed as his caretakers until he came of age. Wanting the money for themselves, they kicked Vasco out of the house, claiming he had no way to earn his keep. Vasco spent the rest of his childhood living on the streets in Oron.
Copperridge University
At age 20, Vasco was arrested for theft and sentenced to public flogging. Though he was bound with a type of Magical Binding colloquially known as 'wizard rope,' he managed to break free, first by turning invisible, and then by untying himself. From there, Vasco made his way to Suxad, where he turned himself in as a refugee. In Suxad, Vasco was offered an opportunity to work toward citizenship while attending Copperridge University.
Due to his criminal past, Vasco's magic was bound with level 9 binding tattoos upon entrance to Copperridge. The high-leveled binding was a precaution taken because he had already broken out of bindings once before. Nevertheless, Vasco proved to be powerful with magic, and while he never regained his gift for invisibility, he quickly revealed an apptitude for illusion magic. Under the tutelage of the famous illusionist Rosemary Calder, Vasco excelled at both illusion magic and art, and when he obtained his Suxadi citizenship, he adopted the last name Painter to honor his new profession. At Copperridge, Vasco also met Liche Shigod, Chris Marsa, and Janel Kerrien. Together, the four became known as "The Copperridge Quartet."

Shortly after obtaining his Suxadi citizenship, an Oronian lawyer contacted Vasco with word of his aunt and uncle's deception. His inheritance would be returned to him, and his aunt and uncle were sentenced to a public flogging, as he had once been. Vasco briefly returned to Oron to sell the family farm, using the money to bribe local police and prevent the punishment of his aunt and uncle. He then returned to Suxad, though he later created a trust to support a local orphanage in his home city.
Present Day Career
Like his teacher before him, Vasco has become famous as both an artist and an illusionist. His landscapes appear in museums throughout Nideon, and continues to teach both art and illusion magic at Copperridge University. He has also done research in several different countries with Chris, Liche, and Janel, whom he remains close friends with to this day.
