Rose Temple

Rose Temple was the Epaluno Temple in Illegate, Ethion. It was located on Crekrel Street, across from the train yard.   Built in 1920, Rose Temple was an unassuming wooden building with only the mark of Pelan torch above the door to declare its purpose to the outside world. Inside, the temple had a sanctuary space for hosting religious services and other community events. When Ethite laws restricted Pelan students from attending public schools, this space was also used as a makeshift school. Like the outside of the temple, the sanctuary was very plain, as is common for Epaluno temples. The room had ordinary windows on the outer walls, and a raised stage at the front which included a small altar, usually decorated with a purple cloth. The Epaluno torch was also depicted in the back. Rather than pews, the temple was equipped with about one hundred mismatched wooden chairs, which were also used in the attached dining area during Pelan Commuity Meals. The temple also had an industrial kitchen (for cooking said meals) and a nursery for children eight years old and under.   During The Southern Fever pandemic, the temple kitchens were used to prepare meals which temple members then delivered to different areas in the broader Illegate community, particularly to those at highest risk of catching the condition. The sanctuary, nursery, and dining area were later provided for hospital overflow, serving as a clean space where the sick could be quarantined and cared for.   During the 1950s, as many Pelan businesses began to close, Rose Temple was one of the last buildings on Crekrel street to remain open. This lasted until 1961, when the temple burned down in the early hours of the morning with the congregation in time. Enforcers were unable to rescue anyone.
