Otlitod ([otli'tod])

The Otlitod are the part of the Noneanos clergy who design aptitude tests for Liri. They live near the northern border of Liri in the Scar Mountains.
If the Otlitod can't measure it, it's not worth measuring
— Lirian Saying

History

No one is sure exactly how old the Otlitod are, though they are likely as old as the Noneanos religion itself. As with other clergy, they are identified by the symbolic sword they wear at their waist, though their belts are of a different color. They are most often seen in public at the testing of high-rang positions. To be a member of the Otlitod one must, of course, pass the test to get into the order, which includes proving proficiency in at least one magical skill, two languages, and three musical instruments, as well as a variety of other non-magical skills and knowledge of the religion and its texts.

Religious Importance

The Otlitod have always designed the coming of age exam. Though they primarily observe high-ranking tests, every year each member of the Otlitod attends several coming of age exams to determine what changes need to be made for the following year. While changes are usually small, some of the more well-known changes include proficiency in a musical instrument and inspection of the examinee's clothing. They are also in charge of designing the tests for other important religious steps, such as someone joining a member of the clergy or converting.

Secular Importance

Though the Otlitod are technically a religious organization, they had a profound effect on Lirian society at large. They are now involved in the creation of all school aptitude tests, particularly the Early Aptitude Test, which is closely based on the Noneanos coming of age exam. They are also heavily consulted in the creation of aptitude tests used for a variety of professions in the country.

Testing Among the Allabasi

We have committed no crime. Our only crime was educating our children.
All students in Liri are required to take the Early Aptitude Test at age nine. The parents of Allabasi students scoring particularly well on this test are often found guilt of crimes shortly after, with the high-scoring children removed to be raised by "better" families.
