Ebony Nightbeetle

Ebony Nightbeetle was born in the Taend Forest in Nefrale in 1899. He spent much of his childhood living between the human and Sprite worlds. He developed a good relationship with an elderly woman who ran a convenience store one town over, which also served as an intersection between the different cultures in his home country. As a teenager, he served as a translator at the local immigration office. This is how he first met his wife Snowcloud Waterwind, who his family took in upon arrival. As an adult, he took a job in the store he frequented as a child, and later, took it over from the woman who had previously owned it. He married Snowcloud in 1924 and had two children.

Though Ebony was raised Calistian, he took little stock in the magic lords his family believed in. He displayed some interest in astromythology, he mostly avoided religion altogether. He did, however extensively explore the study of magic, with the hope of increasing his magical strengths. Though he made little progress, he encouraged his children to pursue the same by attending Faraday Academy of Magic, and was thrilled when his daughter was accepted. He was particularly interested in the mysteries surrounding Pine Hill, which he learned from his wife, and spoke extensively about the opportunity to return to Zenxon and visit the famous Midnight Mary at the Cedar Grove Cemetary. Ebony still lives in the Taend Forest, in the house where he lived with his wife, down the street from his son and daughter-in-law.

History

Ebony's family helped Snowcloud when she arrived in Nefrale from Zenxon. They explored a sexual relationship, and when Ebony was 25, Snowcloud became pregnant with their daughter Melody. Though he did not feel a strong romantic attachment to her, Ebony felt the need to support the young woman, who would likely find it difficult to raise a child alone in a new country with no other family to support her. At first, the marriage went well, and three years in, a second child was born. But it cooled off in the following years, as Snowcloud struggled with his inability to return his wife's affection until she died in 1960.
