Danny Carter
The child of Natalie Swift and Quint Carter, Daniel Carter, more commonly known as Danny, was born and raised in Aspen, Zenxon. When he was four, Danny's aunt and uncle, Nathan Swift and Julie Fielder died in a house fire, and his parents adopted his cousin, Hermes Swift. Hermes was only six weeks younger than Danny, and the two quickly developed a very close friendship.
As children, Hermes proved to be quiet and elusive around new people, sometimes worrying adults with his strange behavior. Danny, on the other hand was generally extroverted, though struggled with being apart from his parents. Thus, the two often stuck together, helping each other navigate social situations. In many ways, Danny developed slower than other children, such as not being able to tie his shoes until the age of seven. This made him the subject of bullying by older children, such as John Summers, but after Hermes came to his defense, much of the bullying ended. At the age of eight, Danny and Hermes were playing tag inside their house, when Hermes slipped on the stairs and cracked his head against the door of the stairwell, breaking his neck. Danny found him a minute later, and after notifying his mother, Natalie informed him that Hermes was immortal and would come back. Though Danny understood he personally didn't have this gift, as he grew up, he enjoyed egging Hermes on to do more and more dangerous things, knowing that his cousin would not be harmed in the process. Two years later, Danny met Seth in person when he came to offer his cousin a job working as a Death Witch. It was then that Danny switched to the Calistian faith of his cousin. But finding humor in everything, Danny also started referring to his cousin as "serial killer Swift," a nickname which unfortunately stuck and, combined with the chilling stories Hermes took to telling, earned the boy a frightening reputation in junior high and high school.
