Tideborne Tribe

Originally a nomadic group of nameless wanderers, the Tideborne Tribe is a group of orogs who set down roots centuries ago on the Black Loch. They jointly rule over the Deep Spire alongside House Vaerixas, providing a secure center of trade to many residents of the Underdark. Their current leader is Lord Varl, the great-grandson of Lord Harlorn who helped establish the Deep Spire several centuries ago.

History of the Tideborne Tribe

Seeking to form a settlement near the bounty of resources the Loch provided, the orogs who would become the Tideborne Tribe made their way to the largest rock pillar that jutted out of its waters and prayed to Luthic, Orc Goddess of Caves, for guidance. She blessed her followers with great claws they were able to use to dig into the solid rock, hollowing out sections of the great pillar to turn it into a new home. Once their settlement was established, the orogs built boats from zurkhwood to sail the Loch's waters and pirate the supplies they needed to from other locals. And with that decision they took a new name upon themselves, the Tideborne Tribe.   While the piracy business was good for many years, it eventually turned to bite the Tideborne when they took things too far and angered the duergar of Brazenthrone enough to send an invasion force to crush them. Though they knew they would face a bitter end, the Tideborne were determined to defend their settlement down to the last warrior. But before the duergar arrived, they received unexpected visitors in the form of House Vaerixas. These drow]drow were sensible worshippers of Eilistraee rather than Lolth and their leader, Ysri Vaerixas, brokered a deal with Lord Harlorn, the leader of the Tideborne Tribe.   When the duergar invaders arrived, they were met not only by the orogs they were expecting, but a contingent of the renowned Sword Dancers. Upon noticing these forces also had the backing of a drow matron mother, the duergar thought it better to retreat than risk a potentially disastrous battle. Now a firmly established military power with their new alliance, the Tideborne Tribe soon abandoned their piracy and instead transformed their home, the Deep Spire, into a trade settlement at the suggestion and with the aid of House Vaerixas.

The Tribe Today

While the Deep Spire is still a successful trade hub, things have soured somewhat for the Tideborne Tribe in recent years. Their current leader, Lord Varl (great-grandson of the founder Lord Harlorn), is a young and ambitious leader who seeks to expand the tribe's holdings beyond the Deep Spire. This has brought him into conflict with Ysri Vaerixas and strained the alliance between the Tideborne Tribe and House Vaerixas, as Ysri believes that Lord Varl is attempting to bite off more than he can chew.
