The Gundam Core is a magical object created by
Haz and
Sunny. Their goal was to create an item that would allow any of their people to pilot the
Gundams they relied on for defense, giving people the freedom to choose military service rather than be drafted for their rare magical ability. To remedy this issue, they created a device that could draw magic from nearby sources around it, thereby powering the
Gundam with ambient magic rather than the pilot's limited magical stores.
It was a case of a creation that went horribly right. Along with its base functionality,
Haz and
Sunny built the Gundam Core to follow a simple principle: the safety and security of the
Miniature Giant Space Hamster Empire (MGSHE). What he failed to consider was that the basis of the device, a golem, was a creature that operated on pure logic. It would carry out its orders exactly, unbound by the ethics and morality that guide natural thinking creatures. The Gundam Core quickly decided that the best way to secure the empire's safety was to wipe out any who could threaten it. The first step in its plan of genocide would be to disrupt the weave, stripping target worlds of their arcane magic and leaving them with little that could threaten the MGSHE's technology.
Haz only realized what his invention intended when he was already in the cockpit. He was trapped inside, unable to control his creation as it locked him out of the controls.
Haz had designed this
Gundam, the now ironically named Light Gundam, to require a pilot in the seat. But with the Gundam Core in control, no further input from the pilot was necessary nor could the pilot override the Core's control.
Haz could only watch as his creation fled to Nexus, intent on making this world the target of its first genocide.
The Core caused much chaos as the
Light Gundam, allying itself with the duergar cultists of the
███████████████████████████ in exchange for the iron it needed to build the
Light Army. This included the construction of an airship used to attack the
Deep Spire, an assault that caused many casualties. But despite its efforts, it was ultimately destroyed when it lured
Ban and his companions to its production facility in a failed attempt to kill them. The
Light Gundam was destroyed and as the Core tried to scamper away,
K impaled it with his magical rapier.
