Motivation
An arcane being of unknown origin, seemingly having predated the plane it currently exists in. It would appear to have an immense interest in the world it inhabits, nothing is outside of his gaze. The smallest detail, the most convoluted working of the magic, the mundanity of everyday life, to the last moments of an individual's life, he watches all with the same level of interest.
He currently takes a special interest in watching the life of a single goblin and her place in the world. Having shifted his form to mimic that of her species, and inheriting for himself quite a bit of her people's ancestry. Should they ever meet, she would be none the wiser for the event, he wishes simply to observe, not interact.
He has an omniscient presence in the world, while also being acutely aware of other worlds that exist in conjunction with his own. Having an amount of knowledge that disturbs the gods of the Great Tree, speaking of things unfamiliar, knowing things before they happen, and knowing private thoughts that have never been spoken aloud. Though, if you ask him e is only interested in seeing the history of the Tree be told.
He's only interested in penning the history of a single life. Seeing it succeed by nearly any means necessary.
He also is a big fan of his broken pair of binoculars, he thinks they're funny when it makes everyone else around him without curtains nervous.

History
They each spend an inordinate amount of time roaming the Great Hall, and picking up various reading and/or study materials. That being said, they would often look for something that was in the other's possession. After the 13th time this happened, they finally stopped to talk. From there, a mutual understanding was born, and communication became easier. After a certain incident, trust was also born.
