Gaurenoy (gar-eh-NOY)
A word meaning "forest hunter" in the Mimew language. It is a rank of the Filobr Riders, second only to Gaurczy or "forest lord" and above the rank of experienced rider, called Hothkret.
Achieving the Rank
Like other ranks within the Riders, it is achieved during the seasonal Orwegriy ceremony after a series of feats to prove their worth. Gaurenoy is achieved by hunting down and returning with one of every Gaurelebbit or "forest prey." Each of the animals represents a virtue of the Riders and the list typically includes moose (strength; or sometimes bear), fox (speed), wolf (cunning), and the dangerous Ineshczy (loyalty). A Rider typically returns with the beasts bloody pelts as proof and is promoted on the second day of the Orwegriy.Duties and Benefits
The Gaurenot, as the Rider of the rank is addressed as, is entitled to days off, additional food, a place in the captain's tent, and sits in on meetings alongside the Gaurczy and their trusted Hothkret. The Gaurenot may lead a portion of the pack if Hothkret are lacking though typically they only direct Hothkret and their immediate subordinates. Gaurenots do not speak with footmen, no mater any previous friendship or love: the interaction is said to go against the will of the Gods, specifically that of Sotofy. Typically, the Gaurczy selects a single Gaurenot as second-in-command who leads in their absence.History
The position existed before the Riders as a final test for apprentices to become masters. When the Riders were formed and the role of Gaurczy was established, the Gaurenoy was the natural choice for second-in-command. Notable Gaurenots include the infamous Aurwy Kescothkitaw and Eon Loekotr.
