Wheat of the Lord

The Wheat of the Lord is a fundamentalist LDS organization that believes that Deseret has fallen away from the original colonists vision of creating a righteous society. They believe it is their responsibility to guide the nation to a more gospel orientated track.

Origins

Despite the psychological screenings meant to filter out colonial applicants with extremist leanings, some still found their way to Deseret. Among those who managed to secure space on board, Karyn Tanner quickly established herself as a firebrand of divine fervor and pedantry. To her and those who agreed with her, the Deseret Colonial Leadership Corps was not doing enough to ensure that immoral cultural practices from Earth were stamped out. On Deseret she would eventually lose a number of harassment lawsuits filed against her, which disillusioned her to the Deseret vision.
In XX DE Karyn Tanner, her family, and some friends would head out into the wilderness, declaring themselves "sovereign citizens" which exempted them from the laws of Deseret. Over the course of a year she and most of those with her would succumb to disease or prion poisoning and the rest would move back to Zarahemla. Despite this failure, a following developed that took inspiration from her writings. These writings included the idea that if they had been sufficiently righteous the lord would have made the local wildlife edible for them, and that this lack of righteousness came from "the enemy" represented by his "tares" or "weeds" scattered throughout society. From now on the group would embrace living with their fellow Deseretis, looking forward to the day when the righteous (wheat) and the wicked(tares) would each receive their own reward.

Influence

Members of the Wheat of the Lord community understand that they lack the leverage that their beliefs grants them. Each member of the community is encouraged to seek ways to increase their ability to "guide" Desereti culture, most commonly through business. Members of the Wheat of the Lord are deeply involved in asteroid mining, where they believe they can operate with the least amount of governmental oversight.

Culture

The Wheat of the Lord movement is one of strict, some say pharisaic, discipline. Clothing design is kept as simple and austere as possible, though critics will point out the sumptuous quality of the material. Their architecture follows this pattern heavily , heavily favoring Brutalist design but made of the highest quality marbles. The Wheat of the Lord community are the most common patrons of illegal ming of Desereti Ocean Marble.
24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:   25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.   26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.   27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?   28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?   29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.   30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
— Mathew 13:24-30
