"Finn, If you're reading this, I ain't around anymore. I'm writing this as we head to Bone Rock and, well, I got a feeling I ain't making it out. Call it a captain's intuition. I ain't sure if you'll read this. Hell, maybe you don't give a shit. But... it's just something that's gotta get said. All my life I ain't ever been what I wanted to be. I had a ship and a crew, sure, but it never made me feel... good. The only thing that ever made me give a shit about myself is you. And I couldn't even do right by you. I ain't ever been good to you. I treated you like shit. I never even tried to understand you. And... I'm sorry for that. I don't give a damn about who captains the Reapers. Hell, Grant could do a better job than me. What really got to me was seeing how you've changed, and realizing that I'd been holding you back all that time. For 6 years, I thought you were just some... tool. I never saw what you could be. You ain't the best captain. Sorry to say, but that's the truth. But you're a better man than most people could ever be. I ain't holding you back anymore. Hopefully, I was able to do right by you, in the end. You're gonna do great things, Finn. I'm sorry I could never say it in person, but... I'm proud of you, and I always will be.

Captain Augustus Grimm was the former captain of the Reapers. He was known to be an arrogant, bumbling drunk, but despite this, still retained the respect and love of his crew. He was the owner of Finn for 6 years before selling him to Tinheart.

Appearance

Grimm was a Human male with a wide, stocky frame, complete with a rounded gut. He had matted, black hair, with a large bald spot on top of his head. He had a long, messy beard, which he occasionally braided in different areas. He wore typical captain's clothes, including a dark red overcoat. His teeth were yellowed, and he was seen as unattractive on a good day.

Personality

Grimm's personality was jovial, but he struggled with a lack of focus. He had shown the capability to run a pirate crew for many years, but hadn't shown a drive to reach a certain goal. He was skilled at solving disagreements amongst his crew, but struggled in social situations outside of his own ship.

Grimm put a lot of value in material possessions, including his weapons, his clothing, and even the ship itself. It's because of this that Grimm could become very defensive, despite his often-friendly demeanor.

Background

Grimm became a pirate captain through unknown means, but found great success in the field, going on to do it for many years. At one point, his crew fished up a Servo, and employed him as part of their crew under the name: Skinny. After 6 years of service, Grimm decided to sell Skinny to Tinheart for a small sum.

About a month later, Jinskarr Karek arrived in Mainfair with barrels of Revolt and took over the town. Grimm put up a fight, but ultimately tried to negotiate with Jinskarr, seeing no other option.

After going out on Jinskarr's ship to discuss terms, Grimm was presumed dead. His ship was destroyed and his crew was disbanded, leaving the Reapers a forgotten relic.

However, after the Misfits went out to the Roaring Isle, they found Captain Grimm alive. Surviving the wound he sustained from Jinskarr, Captain Grimm waited on the island for Jinskarr's men to return to collect the Revolt. He joined the Misfits, with the hope of stopping Jinskarr once and for all.

Fate

• Crushed to Death (Intentionally)

After defeating Jinskarr, Captain Grimm refused to leave Bone Rock as it collapsed. He gave Finn some parting words and accepted his fate, preferring to die a captain than live a few days longer lying in bed.

Relationships

• Finn: Grimm and Finn always had a relationship that centered around Grimm's manipulation of Finn's lack of knowledge or experience. In the end, though, Grimm finally understood who Finn was, and vice versa. They were finally equals.

Trivia

• Captain Grimm used to own an animatronic fish, which he proudly displayed.
