Savaris Character in Nethdria | World Anvil

Savaris

Mother of Lycanthropy and Matron of the Hunt

Blood and Rage

Lycanthropes are a scourge upon the world, let loose upon its inhabitants by Savaris. Also called the Mistress of the Hunt and Mother to all Lycanthropes, Savaris is an infernal lord associated with beasts and wild magic. She is the eternal rival to Kabara, the Father of Vampirism, and battles him for supremacy in the Material Plane using her lycanthropes. A vengeful god, Savaris never forgets a slight, no matter how ancient. She is quick to anger and slow to forgive. However, concerning her lycanthropes, she has a motherly tendency and can be genuinely caring, some may say loving, and fiercely protective. While werewolves are the most well-known of her creatures, others, such as weretigers, wererats, and werebears, menace regions throughout the continent.

The Hunt

Savaris' infernal realm is known as the Woodlands. It is a deceptively organic-seeming realm of endless trees and hunting grounds. However, deep within the forest, Savaris is chained to three great mountains. It is said once every century, she is released to rampage across the land, with access to the mortal realm — this devastating event is known as the Hunt. The Hunt is the most baleful time for vampires across Sol, for they become the hunted rather than the hunters they are accustomed to. Savaris herself unites and leads packs of lycanthropes into atrocious packs of hunters who carve a bloody wound wherever they travel, though they primarily seek out vampires rather than mortals.

Lycanthropes

The lycanthropes come in many forms, but all organize themselves into packs that terrorize their respective area. Lycanthrope packs operate independently and may form their own laws and traditions. However, every pack is expected to conduct themselves with a fierce code that demands honor, courage, and respect — though these virtues only tend to extend to members of the pack. Outsiders are considered fair game, and while lycanthropes prefer to hunt vampires rather than mortals, they will usually not bat an eye at hunting mortals, even if only for sport. Pack leaders who fail to uphold these codes of valor and honor can expect to be brutally punished by Savaris.

The Green Lady

In addition to being the creator and deity of lycanthropes, Savaris carries another divine appointment. To the forest folk of the southern woodlands, Savaris is known as the Green Lady and is considered a powerful nature spirit who grants those who respect the woodlands and its creatures boons and fiercely punishes those who trespass. In this respect, she is considered a spirit associated with all animals.

Mental characteristics

Intellectual Characteristics

Savaris is brash, plain-spoken, and direct. She does not appreciate subtlety or subversiveness. Intellectual musings and philosophy are seen as utter wastes of time to her.

Taboos

For a lycanthrope to renounce the gift or turn to a life of pacifism rather than one of being a predator, they have earned the eternal hatred of Savaris, for which she will never forgive. Such a person is forever branded in her eyes as not only fair game, but their killing would be encouraged to restore honor to the pack they left. As well, any form of accord or terms with vampires is seen as deeply offensive to Savaris who considers them as well as their god sworn enemies until the end of time.

History

Born rivals of one another, the two cannot exist without the other, figuratively speaking. Early uncovered legends imply the two are siblings but they don't seem to see each other that way. Either way, the two are eternal rivals, both competing for supremacy and influence in the mortal realms through wars with their creations, the vampires and the lycanthropes. Interestingly, they have very few personal interactions as they both let their 'children' fight and die for their sake.

Nicknames & Petnames

Savaris calls Kabara 'the King of Maggots', referring to his vampires due to their reliance on numbers instead of strength. Meanwhile, Kabara calls Savaris a whole host of flamboyant names, always prefaced with 'rabies infested'.
