Kabara

Father of Vampirism and Patron of the Feast

Blood and Darkness

Vampires are a scourge upon the world, let loose upon its inhabitants by Kabara. Also called the Patron of the Feast and Father to all Vampires, Kabara is an infernal lord associated with intrigue and mortal intellect. He is the eternal rival to Savaris, the Mother of Lycanthropy, and battles her for supremacy in the Material Plane using his vampires. Kabara is methodical, cunning, and strategic, never acting without thinking and always having a plan for his divine goals. He is said to view his vampires like pieces on a chess board to be used to exert his will. He resides in his realm, Sanguinium, where the most powerful vampires serve in his court as his champions. From this realm, it is said he can see through the eyes of any vampire.

The Feast

Once every century, the vampires of the continent gather for a ceremony known as the Feast. A week-long gathering follows, during which various vampire covens assemble to discuss plans and directions for the next century. While originally intended to foster unity and cohesion among the covens, it has since descended into a storm of intrigue, plotting, and betrayal. Here, the covens conspire against each other, organize reversals, coups, and betrayals, and spy on each other. However, the gathering gets its name from a ritual that takes place on the final day. A magnificent gathering of mortals are assembled for the ritual and sacrificed with ceremonial blades so that the vampires may consume their blood and flesh. Often, the sacrifices will include paladins or other holy people, for they are considered the highest-value sacrifices in the eyes of Kabara.

Vampires

Also called children of the night, the vampires are Kabara's chosen creatures and servants. A type of undead humanoids, they rely on mortal blood to survive and are masters of stealth and deception. Vampires organize themselves into covens. Independent and self-sufficient, covens are brotherhoods and families of vampires bound together by common blood, cause, or loyalty. Each coven has its own traditions and laws, but all are expected to bend the knee to Kabara and embody his virtues of cunning and intelligence. Due to the nature of vampires being more or less immortal and with the ability to enslave other mortals and other vampires mentally, turning them into thralls, the species has suffered from the temptations of ambition, betrayal, and ego. Rare is the coven that functions as a communal unit with a true sense of loyalty and honor to each other. Vampires are pathologically prone to betrayal, paranoia, and launching coups on their own leaders. Among vampires, loyalty is seen as less virtuous than cunning. As such, betrayal is expected, and a prudent vampire lord is always prepared for it. However, not all vampires are members of covens. Some organize into loose bands or find community with other vampires in mortal societies, while others remain lone creatures who fend for themselves.

Personal history

Very little is known regarding the history of Savaris and Kabara prior to their war. A minority of scholars and sages suggest the two never really existed and were born out of the shared myths concocted by the vampires and werewolves about themselves. If this is true, it would mean the creatures of the night created their gods, not the other way around.

Morality & Philosophy

Kabara's morality orients around honesty to one's own self. He considers anyone staying true to their path and showing discipline, diligence, and intelligence to be virtuous, even if they're not vampires. In fact, he has more respect for a monk, knight, or vampire hunter who demonstrates these traits than he does for a vampire who has abandoned his guidance and the virtue of order.

Taboos

For a vampire to give up the gifts of undeath, speed, and stealth, seeking a cure to vampirism, is an insult to Kabara, one that he never forgives.

History

Born rivals of one another, the two cannot exist without the other, figuratively speaking. Early uncovered legends imply the two are siblings but they don't seem to see each other that way. Either way, the two are eternal rivals, both competing for supremacy and influence in the mortal realms through wars with their creations, the vampires and the lycanthropes. Interestingly, they have very few personal interactions as they both let their 'children' fight and die for their sake.

Nicknames & Petnames

Savaris calls Kabara 'the King of Maggots', referring to his vampires due to their reliance on numbers instead of strength. Meanwhile, Kabara calls Savaris a whole host of flamboyant names, always prefaced with 'rabies infested'.
