Ayrith

A human-led kingdom in central Sol, ruling from the grand canal city of Almavira, straddling the two sides of the continent. A recently born union of petty fiefdoms, the humans of the region, known as Droth, are a politically quarrelsome bunch who only unified in response to the elven threat in the north. The coastal regions are home to rocky shores and temperate grasslands boasting great cities and trade posts, while more inland, small towns and hamlets decorate the charming forests. Once a land of lords and princes, Ayrith is now led by a single monarch - Queen Evelyn of House Rose, a young ruler new to the political battlefield.

Structure

Ayrith follows a traditional hereditary monarchical system where power passes, ideally, from father to son, or in other cases, women can inherit if no suitable male heirs exist. It has an elective portion where if a monarch dies without appointing an heir, the nobles will elect one from among themselves. This is due to the original state of the country as a collection of feudal fiefdoms, as such, the nation retained a high level of noble autonomy.

King

The realm is under the direct rule of a king or queen. The king takes orders from nobody and is the highest authority in the country. They do, however, take counsel from nobles when they have his ear. The position is typically hereditary but has an elective component if the king dies without an appointed heir. The current ruler is Queen Evelyn of House Rose, a monarch of merely twelve years of age who inherited the throne from her father King Edric.

Crown Prince

The crown prince is usually the eldest son of the king and is appointed to distinguish him from other family members and princes in terms of succession. If the king dies, the heir apparent is appointed to take the throne and rule for life. Prior to ascension, Crown Princes typically manage specific sectors, especially as their monarch ages, such as military, economic, or diplomatic affairs.

Culture

Ayrithic culture varies depending on socioeconomic class. Among the lowborn, they are hard workers who spend their recreational time with activities such as song, dance, and woodwork. Archery and horseback riding are also considered cultural staples by most social classes. As for the highborn, the well-to-do, and nobility of Ayrith, their time is spent embracing the luxuries of other cultures such as Asvathan poetry, Orcish dances, and Shanraon tea. They have always been a rather cosmopolitan people and your connection to exotic lands is considered a boost to your social status.   Additionally, innovativeness is seen as important in the country. Traditions are constantly being changed.

Assets

They have built a canal on the Golden Strait, connecting the Sea of Thralls and the South Sea. This allows trade from the northern nations like Daeruin and Mistvall to more efficiently reach the southern nations like Svaelyn Isles. This also makes it so Ayrith sees most of the trade that passes through the region.
