Hellspawn Species in Nebula Burning | World Anvil

Hellspawn

Commonly birthed from the fragments of mortal life, they are mostly here to cause chaos

Born of the many Planes of Hell, the Hellspawn are categorized into five distinct groups. These groups cannot be identified by form and function in any way other than the height of the spawn, as all Hellspawn look distinctly different.

Hossum

The titanic great beasts of the spawn, they are born from the air and stone and water of the Hell Planes itself. They are elemental forces made flesh and wield Power that could destroy worlds with a simple flick of an errant claw. Never seen outside of the Planes of Hell - as their mere presence would likely cause reality to collapse and the mere strain would kill whoever summoned them - they are the most powerful of the spawn and rule the many regions of the Hell Planes.   The Hossum are not capable of reproducing. If such a union were possible, it would prove too powerful.

Rukbil

Giants in their own right, they are born of wars and conflict. Birthed from blood and death and nightmares, they are spawned in bursts alongside every conflict that happens in the Mortal Plane. Because of this part of their origin, the Rukbil are masters of war and pain, knowing from their birth how to sow chaos, inflict pain, and break the back of resistance. They lead and make up most of the armies that serve underneath the hand of the Hossum, usually in conflict against other spawn. Sometimes, however, they do touch upon the Mortal Plane, either at their own whim or through summoning, sowing chaos enough to spawn a new war to generate more of their kind. This touch upon the world is usually through possession or influence and never through their physical form.   The Rukbil are not capable of reproducing and, even if they did, they would have no interest in it.

Amite

The midground of the Hellspawn classes, the Amite are born of murder. Their numbers swell and wane across the course of years, depending on how mortals kill others of their kind. It is not accidental deaths that spawn them but deliberate, plotted, cold-blooded killing intent. Of all of the Hellspawn, they have the most horrific of forms, usually echoing the death that spawned them in some way. When a serial killer is on the loose, it can be clearly seen in the Amite that are spawned as they will all share a clearly distinct trait that links them together.   The Amite are not capable of reproducing, likely because of the agony that spawned them.

Bhurid

Generally the most human looking of Hellspawn across their class while still being distinctly otherworldly, they are born of broken hearts. Whether from a lost love, a death, or a friendship broken, any of these losses may spawn a Bhurid. Because of how they are created, they have the most connection to the Mortal Plane and are the ones who touch it the most out of any of the Hellspawn.   Out of all of the Hellspawn, they are the only one who actually have the capability to reproduce. It is believed this is because of how it they are spawned, that the longing of a broken heart gifts them the need for connection. They are also the only Hellspawn that can reproduce with mortals but such practice is forbidden.

Impian

Imps, the lowest of the Hellspawn, are born of fragments from the mortal plane. They may come from fragments of human spirits left over after death, powerful emotions, or even strong memories. These tiny things that spawn them make them small in stature but they are not small in Power. While not as powerful as the higher classes, they are certainly more powerful than most Mageborn mortals. They are, however, the most frequent visitors to the Mortal Plane as well as the most frequently summoned.   The Impian are not capable of reproducing.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hellspawn anatomy has little consistent form or function. Two spawn of the same class can look as different to each other as any other, there is no set look to any of them. The only identifier that truly links them all is that they all possess horns.

Biological Traits

The only truly biological trait that links all Hellspawn together is that they all possess some type of horns. Though the style is not the same amongst all strains of their kind, each and every one has some representation of horns.

Genetics and Reproduction

Hellspawn are not born, nor do they reproduce as other species do. It also depends on the class of Hellspawn for how they come to be.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The social structure of Hellspawn is organized by the five classes of demon and the strength of their Power goes with that class. Being what they are, a Hellspawn may not change what they were created as or rise up through the ranks of social power as a mortal would. In the Hell Planes the class one was birthed into is the class that they remain until they potentially cease to exist.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Given that the Hell Planes exist outside of the mortal one, the geographic distribution is expansive. On the Mortal Plane itself, the population of Hellspawn is very small and relegated to either those who have slipped through at weak points between the two or who were summoned across by Mageborn.

Average Intelligence

Most Hellspawn are intelligent but there are a few who are simply - as the Old Terran mortal phrase goes - "not the brightest bulbs in the box".
