Session Report 49 - Bounty & Feasting

General Summary

"I try to treat my men to a feast after a large bounty. The only thing that tastes better than victory is a finely done pork roast... or two."
-Captain Deryll Beaufort

Bounty

The Drifters strip The Sharkbite for all it's worth. Riches, resources, ammunition, cannons - everything. From the pot, they gain purchase over a few magic items - an enchanted set of armour, a stone which promotes fortitude, a horn which might summon spirits, and the dagger of Lazzo itself - dubbed The Blade of 1000 Fingers. They gain six 12-pounder cannons and two 8-pounders. They also take a good portion of the sailors' rations, almost all their drink, and two bags of spices.
The remaining crew of The Sharkbite is left with next to nothing, only keeping about 3 days' worth of rations - just enough to get to a settlement with no risk of going hungry.

Three Scarred Fingers

While the rest of the crew is dealing with The Sharkbite, Gunther is in the sick bay being attended to by Laire, Ramone, Graham, and, when she's able, Lou. His three severed fingers have been recovered from the deck and brought down, placed in ice (created by Ramone), and prepared for surgery. With the aid of Ramone's magic and a bit of his own, Laire begins surgery to reattach Gunther's fingers.
First is the middle finger, which, with strong efforts on all fronts, Laire and co. manage to sew back on and heal with magic to great effect. The ring finger is slightly less clean of a job, and Laire struggles more. The process is demanding and time-consuming, and even a single tremble of the hand might cause the situation to become unrecoverable. Nonetheless, the ring finger is sewn back on, and the group agrees that it will likely be able to move again, with a bit of time.
The pinky is last and proves by far the hardest one. By now the surgery has lasted well over an hour, and the wound is less fresh. In addition, all participants in the surgery are growing quite exhausted, having been swept from a life-or-death battle straight to a life-defining surgery for the left-handed Gunther. The pressure, the exhaustion, and the increased difficulty of the ordeal lead to a sub-optimal job. Rather, it leads to a quite good job, but in a scenario where "quite good" simply won't cut it, especially compared to the fantastic work that was being done before. Gunther's pinky is sewn back to his hand, and what magic the healers have left is used to its best effect, but it is unclear if the pinky will ever be able to move again.
Gunther wakes a couple of hours later, his fingers incredibly scarred and not yet able to be moved, but attached. He is told the recovery will take time and takes it with stride. Laire, utterly wiped, then heads to have a long sleep.

Scarlet's Stories

Scarlet Herring is on her way as soon as she sees The Sharkbite fly the white flag. She's there within half an hour, growing so impatient as to swim the last hundred feet to The Flying Flagon herself. She jumps aboard eagerly congratulating Locke (and basically only Locke) on the work well done. She tells him that she's already contacted all the people working in the news that she knows to get the story out there. She promises that Locke will be known across the seas within the week and that, "every man, woman, child, and dolphin will know your name!"
Herring also makes it very clear that she really is itching to fight Locke when next she gets the chance, though she promises only to do it when he least expects it. She continues to make herself a nuisance to the captain before he asks that she leave, and her first mate, Alpaca, reigns her in.

Feast!

The drifters take a much-deserved feast aboard their ship the night following their victory, using some of the spices found on Lazzo's ship and some of the better meats they have in stock. Fazili whips up a great meal, and there is much revelry to be had. And much drink. Much drink.
Gunther tries his best to get closer to Seraphine, who has adapted fairly well to the missing leg. He tries his best to flirt a little, though isn't too aggressive with it. Locke gets in the way by third wheeling aggressively. Nonetheless, a good time is had by all, and she joins the senior crew for a game of dice.
Much of the rest of the crew also takes the time to party and enjoy themselves. Vot gets some good wine in him, Peter and Rordan manage to socialize quite a bit, Grov barely beats Ouchie in an arm wrestle, Fjinkdinkden begins telling stories of old, "Fernan" and "Oblir" enjoy socializing but always have to make themselves scarce when Nora appears. The whole lot go about their merry ways.

Payday

The following morning, Locke hands out pay - a whopping 500 gold to each normal crew member. Nora is paid the same as a member of the senior crew (three shares), much to her satisfaction. She is in it for the money after all. The whole lot are quite happy about the affairs, and the Crew Morale is at an all-time high.

Isle of Statues

With the celebrations concluded, the ship sails the remaining couple of miles to The Isle of Statues, and the normal expeditionary team departs. The isle has a thin jungle, and a statue-studded path leading inland from its northward-facing beach. The statues are at first heroic-looking statues of people of various races, each with their own make though bearing similar poses. But soon another type of statue appears - hyper-realistic depictions of people in fear, without pedestals or anything. The group has a reasonable suspicion that these are the product of a medusa. The terrified statues grow more frequently as the group heads down the path. At one point, a statue of Timer appears on the side of the path, which Laire shatters for safe measure, in case it is actually him.
Coming to the end of the path, the group finds the mostly crumbled ruins of a few species who have come and gone from the isle over the years, starting with the elves and moving through Bodari, humans, dwarves, and more bodari. Many horrified statues are here. One central building stands intact, atop which a half-finished massive statue stands. Within the building, the group finds a veiled woman who could only be presumed to be a medusa. She invites the group inside to have some tea and politely asks if they would like to be turned to stone. The group, dodging the subject at first, eventually just confronts her and ask if she's a medusa. She is not. She's literally just a sculptor who is very good at her job and likes to make sculptures of people in fear. Her sister is a medusa but she's not around this week so don't worry. The group eventually decides not to worry, and Grov decides to let her sculpt him. What a nice woman, she's doing it practically for free - all she wants is some food as payment.
