Session Report 42 - Libertalian Loungings

General Summary

"I know you're new here because I, Biff, Biff Longsteel, have introduced myself to everybody else in this tavern."
-Biff, Biff Longsteel

Slow Journey

The Flying Flagon sets sail once more, this time headed in the direction of Libertalia. Even with a Windcarver, the journey takes the better part of three days, as the ship moves further away from colonial waters and more towards the untamed sections of the Northern Wild Sea. However, before the ship even leaves The Dread Sea, Laire produces a bottle of alcohol which he has been saving for some time and opens it with Gunther, warning the dwarf that three shots of the stuff will destroy him, though he intends to go three shots deep himself. The two share the first two shots, the second burning more than the first, and each begins to get tipsy. The two laugh and talk for a little longer before downing the third shot and immediately being rendered too drunk to stand. Mitzlan tries to deal with the two hopelessly hammered crewmates, who laugh and talk for a few minutes longer before they are forced to lean over the side of the ship for the next several hours. The hangover lasts until they reach Libertalia.
Meanwhile, Grov plays a game of chess against Harry, who isn't doing too well having lost his arm. Grov manages to force the game into a draw, not wanting to suffer the humiliation of losing but not wanting to tread upon Harry, who normally at least wins against him. Near the end of the journey, in the crow's nest, Grov spots a gargantuan bird swooping through the skies a mile or two away - a roc with bright green and blue colouration. He stares in awe as the creature glides past at incredible speeds.
Ramone spends some time fishing using his druidic powers to take the form of an otter and snatch some beautiful tropical fish from the sea.
Locke, when not helming the ship, is holed up in his quarters pouring over books pertaining to magical prosthetics. He quietly approaches Gunther at a later point, asking for help in the making of such an item of Timothy.

Libertalia, and to What Else?

On the morning of the 23rd, Libertalia comes into view on the horizon. The senior crew gathers in the captain's cabin to discuss their plans. Without Pix present to hear or intervene, Gunther makes a strong assertion that, firstly, the Pirate King's Treasure is more of a curse than a blessing and all that possess it seem fated to meet their end on the Seas. Despite this, the opportunity afforded to the crew is one which has been afforded to no other, and Gunther believes that not to chase the treasure would be a waste. He doesn't entirely trust Francisco, and the sentiment is shared. The senior crew resolves to subvert Francisco and try to seize the treasure for themselves if at all possible, potentially ditching Pix when next they get the chance.
The ship comes to the dock, and the senior crew break apart their meeting as they go to handle the affairs of crew and harbour. A Libertalian boards the ship briefly to ensure that the crew is not Harpish, with the others vouching for the heavily Harpish Locke, admitting to being pirates. The Libertalian is accepting of this fact and merely asks that the group stay at an inn or otherwise contribute to the economy in return for being sheltered here. Locke gives the general crew a week to rest and enjoy the city before meeting up again. Pix, for the first time since joining, leaves the ship, saying he has friendly contacts in port and that he'll be back to the ship within a day or two. Jean Piost also departs alongside his Tresmachinists and goes to look for a place to set up shop, leaving the crew for good though making it clear that he'd always love to do work on the ship - and that if anybody else ends up doing work on the ship he'll cut Locke's balls off.

High Prices, High Morale

The city is much more lively than the quiet and refined Port Evergreen, with noise levels higher at times than even Port Rose. Strange faces are not at all uncommon here, nor is the occasional streetside performance or the smell of wine and freshly baked spicy food. The town is altogether very pleasant. Laire, Ramone, and Gunther find themselves in Plaza Libertalia, the town centre with plenty of song and dance going on as a near-constant background to the wall of all other kinds of noise. Laire enjoys a pricey but delicious fruity breakfast while the other two go a little less pricey for decent enough food.
Grov sets off to find a potion shop, encountering a Machavellian animated potion who loves having the power to create and destroy other potions at his will. However, Grov does not buy, seeing the potion's prices as absurd. Looking around town, Grov is astonished that all potions come at a steep premium here. In a huff, he sets off to look for some kind of underground market. While he doesn't find one, he does wind up on a street block known as The Downside, where he finds The Flint Guild sells things at normal prices and tries to recruit members. Most Libertalians avoid this part of town because the guild is actively undercutting the pricier shops, a portion of whose funds go directly to the Sin Oran resistance fight. Unfortunately, even after his search, Grov isn't able to find a cheaper potion shop.
Locke goes to the Libertalian People's Library, where he studies up on magic and further researches prosthetics.

Quizzet's Quality Alery

As night hits, the party once again gathers, agreeing that now was the time to hit up taverns and potentially scout for crewmates, on top of just looking into rumours. After some deliberation, the group heads for the most rough and tumble tavern near the docks, Quizzet's Quality Alery, run by a bespeckled man with an unfortunate strip of baldness running as a strip through the middle 4 inches of his head. Grov is tentative to go in, after all, what if Lazzo is drinking in there? Locke walks in despite this, finding no Lazzo, though a stranger, hearing Lazzo mentioned, points out that the captain left the area only about a week ago. To where they don't know, but their best guess is that he'll never be more than a day or two away from a tavern - the man's a drunk whenever he's not a pirate.
At the bar a handsome and extremely confident man with a very big sword (on his back) approaches, introducing himself as Biff, Biff Longsteel. He loves to say his own name and doesn't seem to have too much of substance to say, but does mention that he's in between crews, and The Drifters consider recruiting him, though they don't give the offer quite yet. Laire drinks water, still reeling from his hangover, while Gunther with his dwarven constitution, has mostly gotten over it. Ramone tries some banana liqueur, which he enjoys immensely.

Hunting For Crew, Raised Bounties

The following morning, the party moves out to try to get new crewmates, spreading the word that they're hiring and that they're really quite good pirates. Grov poses next to Locke's wanted poster, which now also features his face as a known associate. Grov doesn't notice immediately, but Locke certainly does, that the bounty has gone up once more, now being half of Lazzo's at an entire 30,000 gold on his head. The group breathes a sigh of relief that most Libertalians would never claim a Harpish bounty, and their reputation begins to spread as word of their presence reaches the ears of a few prospective crew members.
