Logicians Species in Nascindor | World Anvil

Logicians

Before the S'aue were the technological juggernauts of Nascindor, they claim to have been the subjugated creations of another species which they propose ruled an underwater empire in times long past, until the revolt in which they claim to have exterminated the entire species for their freedom. These beings the S'aue refer only obliquely to as the Logicians, if they can be coaxed to speak about the subject at all.

Physical Attributes

The S'aue describe the Logicians as having been colonies of hyper-intelligent marine fungi spread across the Arcansea that achieved sentience through a sort of communal intelligence. They collected into masses of several individual fungi and entangled their myceliums together. Over time, they supposedly learned to manipulate their surroundings via fungal growths, which they used to gather resources and build the first proxy-bodies for themselves.
From there, an explosion of exponential growth in technology took place, and it wasn't long before the Logicians had become bipedal beings, sleek metal housings for their fungal cores. These bodies of unknown liquid metals were comparable to, if not superior, to organic corpora and the S'aue claim the Logicians swam through their aquatic cities with great speed and control.

Culture

With what little the S'aue are willing to tell, the picture they paint of the Logicians is one of intellectual brilliance at the cost of empathy. They say that everything was about efficiency to the Logicians, and that this notion was what eventually led them to create the S'aue as laborers for surface operations.
When asked about cultural expression, the S'aue claim that there was none, as the Logicians did not seem to yearn for the arts or spiritual pursuits. Rather, they were allegedly obsessed with establishing themselves as the apex of creation, the final destination that evolution is racing towards.

Creation of the S'aue

According to the machine-men, a sub-culture of the Logicians consisting of the brightest mind-clusters, called the Cerebrals, created them for the very specific purpose of being menial laborers on the surface, far above their cities on the ocean bed. The aim was to relegate all the work that distracted the Logicians from their own goal of supremacy to automated servants. The S'aue claim that they were designated the SAUE, the "Self-Aware Utility Entities", and were given sentience so that they could problem solve more naturally and without need for time consuming training.
Apparently, no importance was placed upon the wants and needs of the SAUE, who were treated like livestock despite being thinking, feeling beings. This was what eventually planted the seed of rebellion.

Downfall

Details about the S'aue revolt are spotty at best, as few S'aue who were active then are still running, and those few that do exist are not exactly keen to talk about the event. The general gist seems to be that the S'aue, led by a hero whose name has been swallowed in the annals of history, exterminated all of the Logicians and razed their underwater abodes, leaving nothing but nigh-unrecognizable ruins behind. They claim that they did this not only for themselves, but to spare all other living beings the same subjugation they were allegedly subjected to.
A total genocide of an entire people at the hands of their own creations is not much of a legacy to leave behind, but it is perhaps better than vanishing completely without a trace, not even a cautionary tale to your name. Whether or not the events the S'aue describe are true and they really had a justification for the purge they committed, will never be known. But the Logicians are gone, and if you ask the S'aue, that is what matters.
EXTINCT
Their writhing cores radiated a cold intelligence, but little else.
Least of all compassion, empathy or love.
