Ignisite

Ignisite is a naturally occuring, rare mineral that has extraordinary properties relating to the retention of energy, especially thermal energy.

Prevalence

Ignisite is quite rare, which makes it a sought after commodity and trade good. Mined from veins unearthed in rocky areas of the Mourning Plateau, the cliffsides of the Mistclad Cordillera and inexplicably even in the shifting sands of the Varlem Desert.
Mining operations are usually headed by the Iron Cartel or one of their member businesses.

Properties

Ignisite has the unique property of being flammable, and it absorbs and retains the thermal energy produced by being on fire within itself. The more heat a chunk of Ignisite has absorbed, the brighter orange is its hue and the hotter it is to touch. Curiously, while the mineral itself grows hotter when on fire, the flames crackling around it do not burn because the mineral absorbs the heat the moment it is produced.
This also applies to heat that should be radiating off of the mineral itself, implying that Ignisite simply does not naturally relinquish any of the thermal energy it absorbs. This means that, while Ignisite is theoretically an infinite source of heat, that heat cannot be put to use towards heating a space, for example.
What Ignisite is actually used for is weaponry and industry, especially in mining. The immense amount of thermal energy that can be stored inside the mineral can be explosively released by shattering the clump containing the energy. This explosion can be as small as to crack a rock or as large as to excavate a tunnel, depending on the amount of released energy. The applications for warfare are self-evident.

Other Uses

Depleted Ignisite is also ground into a fine powder, in which form it has recreational and performance enhancing properties. This powder is known as Soulfire Dust, and is used by the Telothian Legion as a combat drug, as well as a recreational narcotic by peoples all across Nascindor.
Careful now. If you drop that chunk, we're all going sky high.
