Font of Magic Building / Landmark in Nascindor | World Anvil

Font of Magic

In the mysterious dimension of the Tapestrum Arcanum, there is only really one landmark of note that is not present in the real Nascindor, which is visible in the distance no matter where one projects into the tapestry.
That landmark is the Font of Magic, and it dominates the horizon in the tapestrum.

Spatial Anomaly

The Font is anomalous in that no matter how much one journeys towards it through the tapestry, one will get no closer to the pulsing spire, which seems to stay a fixed distance from an individual at all times. Even when mages have coordinated efforts to project at opposite ends of Nascindor and both have journeyed towards the font, they have only eventually come to meet and the font is no closer than when they projected into the tapestry.
Whether this means that the font is a mere illusion is up in the air, but there is an argument to be made that something so grand and apparently central to the layer of magic would be a mere trick of the eye or mind would be very odd indeed. The pulses that it emits are also an argument for its verisimilitude.

Voyagers and the Font

There have been reports of sightings of what are considered to be Voyagers that are seemingly closer to the font than any regular mage has managed to approach it. This has spawned theories that perhaps extended stay in the tapestry somehow attunes an individual to the font, which allows them to approach the bizarre spire.
If this is true, the next question becomes whether or not the human lifespan is long enough to linger in the tapestry for such a time as to reach the font, and what happens when one actually does make it to the magical anomaly.

Pulses

The Font of Magic periodically pulses and sends forth a wave of energy that spreads outwards across the whole tapestry. Those not trained to withstand these pulses will be ejected from the tapestry, forcefully returned into their physical bodies. This has been taken to be some sort of natural cleansing mechanism, expelling foreign minds at steady intervals. Those who have the mental fortitude to resist this rejection describe an intense feeling of being unwelcome as the wave washes over them.
Theories that there is an intelligence within the font have arisen due to this, though there is an equal number of researchers resistant to this notion, claiming instead that it is a natural phenomena of the magical realm.
Remember, when you project, try to locate the Font.
Once you have, return and describe it to me.
