Solaris

The Sun

Solaris (pronounced soh-LAH-riss), sometimes called the Daybringer, is the sun of Namyria, and one of the four Primordial Deities that created the universe. She is the mother of The Voice, The Blossom, The Road and The Light.   The religious organization that worships Solaris and her children is known as the Church of the Light, a crusading force looking to eradicate all presence of magic and darkness from the world, regardless of the method. It is located in the nation of the Briador Forests, and is the leading political force there. Her servants are gifted with the powers of burning and blinding light, to keep those who would shroud the world in darkness at bay, to preserve the balance of the world.   She guards over the day, brings forth the flow of new souls for the living from the Cycle of Life And Death, and in doing so, keeps the Timewheel spinning with the help of her sister Lunaris, shrouded by the infinite Void where all existence lies.

Dogma

There are those who would use their power for selfish, self-centered means. These creatures commit acts that hinder the turning of The Timewheel just to gain a modicum of gratification and power. It is these creatures that must be erased, burned from the face of Namyria. Should they be left to their own devices, Naminus will awaken, and end all of creation.   Amongst these individuals, those who tamper with the Cycle of Life And Death, which is key to maintaining him in his slumber, are most vile. The souls of the dead, are meant to enter the Plane of Death and feed the cycle once their mortal body expires. In interrupting an element of the cycle at any point, the system is stripped of part of it's energy, weakening it's effect on Naminus. The practitioners of these vile acts, so called Necromancers, unbalance the world by leaving the souls of the dead to fester in their bodies, clotting their energy within them. Souls that don't pass on or that are ripped from their eternal rest gradually fill the world with negative energy, and often pose the risk of potentially awakening Naminus, who would destroy the universe if he did. It is in everyone's best interest that such practitioners of foul magic are apprehended, stopped, and if need be, cleansed from the face of the land.

History

Role in Creation

When Lunaris heard the pleas of the First Children, she came to Solaris asking for help. It was then and there that Solaris came up with a system that could keep Naminus asleep for all eternity. The sisters asked Aetherius for help, to put his brother to sleep, and once slumbering and safe within the Void, the twins began their Dance of Life And Death, rocking the Timewheel back and forth. Soon after, the First Children used the powers stolen from the sleeping primordial and imprisoned him under several layers of creation, creating Namyria.

Current Role

Solaris manages the side of life of the Cycle of Life And Death, a system she created to be maintained along with her sister Lunaris, to keep Naminus slumbering. During the day, she feeds life to the world with fresh energy from the Plane of Life. This energy comes from the Plane of Death, where souls come to their final rest, and deposit their energy to be recycled and renewed, to be sent to the Plane of Life. This is the energy that invigorates mortals, makes plants grow, and warms the land.

Relationships

The Primordials and the First Children

Solaris deeply respects her partners, Aetherius, for his kind heart and patience, and Naminus, for his might and perseverance. She does care for some more than others, like her children, The Voice, The Blossom, The Road and The Light.   When they asked for help to be allowed to perform acts of creation, she couldn't say no, and thus, designed a system where Naminus would be imprisoned, Solaris and Lunaris would dance and keep him slumbering, the First Children would get the chance to create a world of unbridled creation, all the while Aetherius kept watch above them all.   Lunaris is, to Solaris, a reflection of everything she is. Her sister is calm and cold, whereas she is blazing and loud. She finds balance in her, and loves her deeply. She is also key in maintaining the Cycle of Life And Death, which keeps Naminus asleep, lest he undoes everything the First Children have created.

The Anaetherials

Beings who have surpassed the limits of mortality, these aberrations pose a great threat to the balance of the world. Some, due to their overflowing power, had to be cast out of the world entirely, for the risk they posed for the balance. However, there were those particularly bold few who managed to trick Solaris' own system, and escape it willingly. These cheaters include Xyrcanas Stargazer, Larzier, Ulos Goldfoot, Lancrym Silktongue, Stix Nicksix, It-With-Many-Faces and Behebi. Threatening the balance is enough of a problem, but she particularly despises these ones for having tricked the system she so carefully designed.

Appearance

Solaris is a massive sphere of pure energy, so bright it can damage the eyes of those who stare for too long. Her radiance is so great, she even brightens Aetherius himself when she is around, and so piercing even the thickest clouds cannot hide her presence. Contained within her are the unbridled energies of the Plane of Life, which she exudes constantly over the land. Her passage through the sky has become key in the cycle of most forms of life, who rise and slumber in tandem with her.

Divine Intervention

All life on Namyria follows Solaris. They either wake with her, or sleep under her light, but all creatures, big or small, live by a cycle that she created and dances to daily. While her effect on the land is noticeable at a glance, she can sometimes respond to the pleas of mortals by radiating light on them through a sea of clouds, or by actively concentrating her radiance on those who would be enemies of the balance and her servants.

Church of Solaris

When the Black King Xarros rose to power, he did so using powers given to him by deities of darkness and magic. While some claim the acts of genocide he committed were due to a deeply ingrained racism and god complex, which then drove him to use his newfound power for the vilest acts in history, the Church of the Light, the cult that worships Solaris and her children, is certain it was the pact he made with the deities of the dark and the arcane that corrupted his heart, out of simple foolishness, not evil. Located in the Briador Forests, birthplace of the Dark Lord, they rule the land with strict and rigorous laws, aiming to right the wrongs he made, and to prevent the birth of another blight like him. They proselytize that all things arcane and dark are dangerous, and have to be driven away with the warmth of the light. To them, the arcane is impure and dangerous forbidden knowledge, and therefore there is a nation-wide ban on practices of the arcane. Those found guilty of studying the arcane or being born with such qualities are exiled, imprisoned, or killed.

Clergy

Priesthood for Church of the Light involves a rigorous training of the mind, the spirit, and the body. Those looking to join the ranks of the light must undergo a series of divine rituals that cleanse their bodies of any arcane influence, permanently. The clergy is expected to both proselytize against, and actively combat those corrupted by foul magic and darkness. The clergy tends to don armours emblazoned with a burning sun in the chest, and protections against the arcane.

Followers

The entire nation of the Briador Forests lives under the strict regime of the Church of the Light, worshiping Solaris and her children. Some creatures that heavily rely on the light to survive or who despise the acts of the Dark Lord or the Church of the Night might find themselves amongst the ranks of the light.
