First Stirring

The Great Cataclysm

The First Stirring was a cataclysmic event that occurred near the year 15.000 B.X. (Before Xarros), close to 5.000 years after the creation of the world, during which Naminus, who was sleeping under the surface of Namyria began to awaken, threatening to destroy the plane, and causing major damage to some of its continents.

The Stirring

Naminus had spent nearly 5.000 years asleep without causing any major disturbances to Namyria. During this time, life on the surface had bloomed, and civilizations had already begun to rise and fall. The First Children watched over them closely, aiding them in their endeavors, and punishing them should they be foolish or disrespectful.   The sum of thousands of years of mortals and deities crawling over Naminus' prison reached its climax one night, and nearly stirred him awake. It is not known if he managed to fully awaken during this time, but the thrashing of the primordial managed to cause massive damage to the surface of Namyria, which could only be lessened by the First Children and Lunaris. Eventually, after a night of thrashing, day arrived once more, and the Cycle of Life And Death put him to sleep again. After this, the First Children vowed to minimize their influence and presence on the material plane, and left mortals to their own devices, marking the transition from the Age of Dawn into the Age of Heroes.

Causes

It is believed that the close presence of the First Children to his prison brought Naminus to near-consciousness. The deities would frequently and liberally use their gifts to perform divine acts on Namyria to awe, bless or punish the mortals of the realm. On top of this, since it was a source of great power, the deities would frequently squabble and fight for the sole purpose of earning more worshipers. This unbridled display of power is what probably stirred the Timewheel. This was promptly addressed to, as when Naminus was contained once more, the First Children left Namyria and moved to the Medium Planes.

Immediate Effects

The thrashing of the almost-awoken Naminus early shattered Namyria to pieces. The first signs of his turbulent rest were seen at the center of the continent of Gedfiel, where the land began to split into three as the sleeping god punched a hole through its center, in what is now known as the Greywater sea, and giving it its unique geyser and magical qualities.   While the First Children focused on containing him over the shattered Gedfiel, the east of the continent of Lanest began to sink as Naminus thrashed. A massive, growing sinkhole, spanning several hundred miles, began to swallow the eastern edge of what is now the Red Steppe.   While there were many mortals in peril in the area, ten times more lived on the entire continental shelf. Lunaris was forced to respond with extreme power, ripping off a part of herself, and slamming it on the fault. The impact decimated the east of the continent, searing it in stone and fire. The patch itself, however, worked. For the most part, at least. The crater of its landing, now known as Moon's Maw, holds a massive vortex of water and death, swallowing even those who try to fly over the area. Some historians hold the theory that the vortex occurs because the fault was not properly sealed, constantly draining a massive volume of water. However, theologians and arcane experts believe that the plug was, in fact, successful, but that the matter of which it was made, moonstone, holds attractive properties, the likes of which move the tides every day. Thus, they pose that the water is not going anywhere, but instead simply being constantly spun by the properties of the massive stone.   The impact, known as the Moonfall, created a circular mountain chain that borders the Red Steppe on the west, and forms the island chain of Falyria, so named after the event that formed it. This act by the goddess is also one of the key events of worship for the Church of the Night, who praise Lunaris for her quick response and great dedication.

Consequences

The First Children & The Diaspora

Looking at the now shattered and bleeding land, the First Children decided that their time on Namyria was over. Promptly, they left the plane, and each made a home in a different location within the Medium Planes, abandoning their mortal followers. This event marked the end of the Age of Dawn, and kickstarted the beginning of the Age of Heroes, and the worship of its new deities.

The Anaetherials

Aetherius, who had not been very mindful of the events of the Inner Planes being that he himself stretches to the Aetherial Void, outermost of the Outer Planes, became very attentive of the affairs of mortals. Particularly those who would threaten to become forces of disturbance as powerful as the First Children. Thus began his watch to expel the Anaetherials out of the universe.
