Febridge Settlement in Nailara | World Anvil

Febridge

Febridge is a small city on the edge of the Great Forest, and is one of the most popular settlements for those planning to enter the magical forest. Despite its small size, it is a bustling city of inns filled to the brim with travelers, guides, and adventurers planning to go into the forest.

Demographics

Febridge, more than any other city outside of the Great Forest, has an immense number of elves, feyfolk, and other fey creatures. Even dryads, sprites, and gnomes make their home in the city. While the chaotic nature of fey can sometimes cause problems, the city's leadership has many years of experience soothing hurt feelings and reestablishing peace among its citizens.

Government

The ruler of the city, a satyr named Dawn Goldencloak, has kept Febridge a largely independent city despite pressures from neighboring nations as well as the constant chaos of leading a city filled with fey unused to living in mortal cities. She is a widely liked figure who has immense support among the population, but is known to rely heavily on her advisors to actually manage a city's day to day.

Industry & Trade

In addition to the abundant food that can be foraged in the lush grasslands outside the Great Forest, Febridge deals heavily in magical reagents, plants, and exotic furs. Natural materials are carefully gathered and prepared, and there are numerous laws forbidding use and production of certain things - most notably, legally obtained lumber is exceedingly expensive and rarely used.

History

In 3948 EC, Febridge narrowly avoided its destruction due to a magical plague that began spreading among its population. Thanks to the actions of a small group of well paid adventurers, an artifact of the god of healing Curatsvo was retrieved and emplaced in the city. The plague relented, and the city has enjoyed prosperity since then.   One of the adventurers who helped avert this disaster, Lena Ellebore, continues to live in the city and has become one of the city's advisors - despite, or perhaps because of, her eccentricities. She is known to be a great lover and collector of the arts.

Tourism

For those with an intense interest in the fey, Febridge is the best option for tourists to get a taste of the fey without chartering an entire expedition into the forest - an expensive and often dangerous thing to attempt. Inns are widespread, and festivals are just common enough to support the city's economy with visitors.
