The production of cloudsilk is a major part of the economy of Aswana, where the feather beetles who produce the material are native to.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Raw cloudsilk is sourced from the feather beetle, which produces it as part of its mating season to store and protect its eggs. When freshly laid, it is greenish-black and quite flammable. When properly dried and processed, it fades to an off-white cream color.
Cloudsilk is a soft textile with a slight sheen, and is a matte gray color in is unbleached state. The highest quality cloudsilk can produce the thinnest fabrics, and tends to be less durable than true spider silk.
Origin & Source
Though some foreign weavers create high quality cloudsilk items, nearly all of the cloth is sourced from Aswana. The highest quality cloudsilk retains the water-resistance of its natural state, but lacks its dangerous flammability
