Manto

Grc: Μαντώ (Prophetess)

The only one of Tieresias's three daughters to inherrit their prophetic ability, said by some even to exceed them. Although destined to one day take her place as the Pythia of Dephi, Manto in 1121 a4 is an apprentice seer with much work to do in order to grow into her talents and future role.

Physical Description

Physical quirks

Cocks her head to the side at times that seem odd to others, but mark instances where she is seeing more than one potential future.

Special abilities

The ability to see the future is not something she can turn on or off. Upon meeting someone new, she already feels a comfort level that comes with knowing their history, but also a distance that comes from knowing the exact circumstances of their eventual death.

Apparel & Accessories

Typically wears gray or white robes cut in a style common to the priesthood, but may apply a temporary dye when she ventures outside the Acropolis and doesn't want to stand out.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Her talent was foretold before her birth and manifested at an early age. With her blind parent ostracized by Jokaste and confined to the Acropolis grounds, Manto has lived the definition of a sheltered childhood. Most of her interactions have come while attending the rites of Apollon's temple or assisting Tieresias in their duties and daily routines, but much of her days are spent watching the birds from the observatory level of the Tower of Helios, high above the Acropolis.

Education

Manto benefited from the tutelage of Tieresias. Her visionary skill is innate but requires discipline in distinguishing memories of the past from the potentialities of the future. Added to this are various reading skills, especially reading the entrails of sacrificial animals and the flight paths of birds in order to divine the will and whims of the daimones.   The most important lessons Manto has yet to master relate to interpersonal skills. Although she can find great meaning in the gall bladder of a bull, she has trouble reading the emotions on the face of a client.

Employment

As a novice in the priesthood of Apollon, she lights candles and offers prayers. As an apprentice seer, she sometimes reads fortunes. In theory, this should only be done under close supervision of her master-mistress, but often goes rogue either intentionally or without realizing what she's saying.

Morality & Philosophy

Has a fatalistic attitude, as genuine seers must maintain in order to keep sane. Any attempt to affect the future, rather than merely reading it, is a gravely punishable sin.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

She knows that she will someday develop people skills, but that the actual work can't be shortcutted by her powers. She knows that she and Pyrrha will become close friends, and has trouble understanding Pyrrha's need to actually meet her and get to know her first.

Social

Family Ties

Daughter of Tieresias, sister to Historis and Daphne.

Religious Views

Her patron is Apollon in his role as the lord of vision and prophecy. Manto is all in on her belief in the daimones, but is unclear on how they operate, as her vision does not extend to the supernatural realms.

Social Aptitude

Uncomfortable around people, and usually the feeling is mutual. Socially awkward in her inability to read or express emotion.
