Institute for Merriness Studies

Institute for Merriness Studies is the elfin educational institution established in 1845. As a proactive measure for Christmas Eve, elves learn other jobs in case of a disaster, magical in nature or not. This occurs from February to May. Sometimes, classes go until the end of July. It has four colleges.

Purpose / Function

North Pole University of Christmas Elves is the academic center of everything regarding Christmas Magic. Thus, we have to talk about its’ beginning.   Elves had expressed a desire to Nicholas, later involving Gertrude, that they should step up and help other departments. Especially when a disaster occurs. Nicholas didn’t realize until later that they were serious and genuine about it. He and Gertrude eventually included it in the city plan when they discussed a new workshop with Father Winter.   So, it serves two purposes. The first is for elves to proactively learn about other jobs to help in case of an emergency whenever it might happen. The second is to educate new elves about jobs from older, more experienced elves.

Schools in Institute

The Institute has four schools; The Christmas Academy, Christmas Customs and Traditions College, Check It Twice College, The North Pole Flight Command School of Sleigh Team and Sleigh Driving Aerodynamics and The Reindeer Ranch. There are possibility more.

The Christmas Academy and Christmas Customs and Traditions College

This is the primary school for elves of age and maturity. They learn about general preparations from all departments for Christmas Eve. This school first prepares them for their future roles in whatever department they will go into. They also learn ways in which people celebrate Christmas on Earth.   If they choose not to go into other schools, they can enter the Forestry Service of The North Pole or Mrs. Claus’s Cooking School. They could enter the workforce as Reindeer Taxi Drivers.

Toy College

Toy College is the college for elves who wish to make and wrap toys. Teachers here are from Santa’s Toy Workshop Castle. They have worked in the Toy Department for many years and are highly skilled in the construction of many kinds of toys and in wrapping them up. At their graduation, those in this college become Toy Elves upon completion of their schooling.

Check It Twice College

Check It Twice College is the college for elves who wish to enter into North Pole Postal Office or North Pole Central Archives.   Elves learn about letters to Santa and how they get up north if they’re learning how to be Postal Elves. They also have to learn about how their job connects to Santa’s Toy Workshop Castle.   To be Archivists or Record Elves, they have to learn how to file and organize folders of documents and where they go.   Teachers here have worked in either North Pole Postal Office or North Pole Central Archives for many years and are highly skilled in their job. At their graduation, those in this college become Postal or Record Elves.

Sleigh Flight School & Christmas Reindeer Herd College/Reindeer Ranch

Sleigh Flight School & Christmas Reindeer Herd College/Reindeer Ranch revolves around reindeer and sleigh operations. Reindeer and Sleigh Operations is the department that needs a combined school as one cannot do one side without learning about the other.   Those interested in being air traffic controllers, sleigh pilots and other kinds of flight specialists who help Santa takeoff on Christmas Eve go into this school. Sleighs are vehicles that also need to be repaired so this school takes those mechanical minds too!   Reindeer, especially Santa’s Flying Reindeer Herd, are creatures that exist within nature and require people with a connection to animal life. The school instructs future Reindeer Elves on all aspects on reindeer care. They also learn about reindeer flight training and hitching to a sleigh or carriage.   This school often has elves graduating on both sides which allows them to do whichever side they need to.
