Myrtha - The Upside

What Is This Place?

Myrtha, also known as the Upside, is a picturesque world brimming with colour and tranquillity. Here, serene forests teem with enchanting flora and fauna, lakes sparkle like mirrors with their crystal-clear waters, and majestic yet gentle mountain ranges rise gracefully in the background. Bustling cities and expansive kingdoms also thrive amidst this beauty, inviting exploration and adventure to any lively spirit.

How It Came To Be

Myrtha emerged from the divine inspiration of, well, Myrtha, the God of All Things Good and Pure. Shortly after creating Mytharae, its namesake decided to divide its beauty equally between His two beloved sons. Myrtha received the radiant land bathed in warm sunlight, while Kharae was entrusted with the realm shrouded in deep shadows.   Filled with joy over His generous portion, Myrtha eagerly set to work, molding the landscape to align with His magnificent vision. Lush forests sprang up, vibrant flowers bloomed in every hue, and crystal-clear rivers snaked through the valleys—all brought to life by brilliant drops of the Sun and the essence of His own being.   As Myrtha nurtured this paradise, He imbued it with the first creatures—which He called His ulumatua, or firstborns—that danced through the meadows and soared across the skies, each one a testament to His creativity and care. In the midst of this flourishing world, Myrtha often paused to admire the harmonious balance of light and life, revelling in the joy it brought to all who dwelled within.

Run around, my lovely children! Run, skip and frolic around the fruits of my labour, my passion, my love.

Areas & Biomes

The realm of Myrtha is divided into seven distinct biomes, each inhabited by different, interesting creatures and ruled by various deities.

Grasslands

Grasslands are vast, wide-open spaces that are characterized by their low elevation and are primarily adorned with colourful grass and a rich variety of other plant life, yet they typically contain very few trees, if any at all. These regions support a unique ecosystem, thriving with diverse flora and fauna, all dependent on the specific conditions that grasslands provide. They play a crucial role in the environment, offering habitats for numerous species while also serving as important resources for agriculture and livestock grazing.

They are divided into two biomes: flowerpraries and grassplains.   Notable Species: Flower people, mushroom people.
Ruling Deity: Mohala'Ma, Goddess of Blooms and Plains

Woodlands

Woodlands are characterized by their towering trees, which stretch high into the sky, creating a magnificent canopy that filters sunlight and provides a habitat for numerous species. Beneath this impressive layer of branches lies a rich and lush, dense foliage that teems with life, from vibrant underbrush to intricate root systems. Each part of the woodland holds its own unique charm and significance, inviting exploration and a deeper appreciation for nature's wonders.   They are categorized into three biomes: evergreens, temperates, and tropicals.

Notable Species: Tree people
Ruling Deity: Mozdul'Erdok, God of Trees and Wood

Deserts

Deserts are vast expanses of sand that stretch endlessly and are characterized by their extremely high temperatures during the day that can drastically drop at night or during the colder months of winter. These harsh and arid regions face a challenging climate that makes it difficult for most flora to thrive, resulting in a landscape populated by only a few hardy plants and resilient organisms that have adapted to such severe conditions. The scarcity of moisture further contributes to the overall desolation, which is often punctuated by dramatic weather changes. Despite their seemingly lifeless appearance, deserts can surprise us with unique ecological niches that support specialized life forms.

They are divided into two: hot deserts and cold deserts.   Notable Species: Serpenta (snake people)
Ruling Deity: Alrim'Almuta, God of Heat and Sand

Snowrealms/Icerealms

Snowrealms, also commonly known as icerealms, are truly breathtaking landscapes that captivate the senses and inspire wonder. These enchanting realms are not just marked by fluffy snow that blankets the ground but also feature expansive sheets of ice and the grandeur of majestic glaciers that loom impressively. The interplay of light on the icy surfaces creates a shimmering spectacle that transforms these frozen domains into a magical paradise. Visitors to snowrealms will undoubtedly find themselves in awe of the natural beauty and serene tranquillity that defines these stunning winter landscapes.

  Notable Species: Seapeople
Ruling Deity: Temau'Hope, Goddess of Water and Waves

Tropicallands

Tropical lands are expansive sandy landscapes that stretch along the edges of the searealms, creating a unique and vibrant ecosystem. Characterized by a consistently warm, tropical climate, these regions offer an ideal habitat for countless sea creatures, which often seek refuge, nourishment, or rest upon their shores. The interaction between the land and the sea in these areas supports a rich biodiversity, making them critical for both marine life and coastal ecosystems. Their proximity additionally fosters harmonious relationships among the residents.

Within these remarkable landscapes, the peaks are often subjected to harsh conditions, experiencing frigid temperatures and strong, relentless winds that shape their very essence. Overall, the combination of towering summits, intricate geological features, and diverse ecosystems makes mountain ranges a fascinating subject of admiration and adventure.

Patron Deities

Myrtha is governed and protected by five principal deities, each intricately connected to the god Myrtha. Their powers intertwine, ensuring balance and harmony throughout the realm. Each deity embodies a unique aspect of life, guiding the inhabitants with their wisdom and strength.

Myrtha, God of All Things Good and Pure

Myrtha governs his entire realm, watching over its inhabitants and the deities that dwell within. His wisdom and strength ensure peace, guiding His people through prosperity and hardship alike. Beneath His vigilant watch, the land thrives, alive with vibrant energy and resilient hope that endured long after His passing.   Legends speak of His ethereal presence, a lingering aura that fosters unity and harmony among the diverse beings of His realm. Even in silence, Myrtha's legacy weaves through the hearts of His people, inspiring generations to rise and uphold the values He cherished.

Olaga, Goddess of Nature and Life

Olaga, Myrtha's cherished wife, was His steadfast companion, tirelessly supporting Him in safeguarding and nurturing their realm. Her remarkable gift for revitalization breathed life into everything She touched, allowing Myrtha's world to flourish with countless vibrant beings. Together, they cultivated a land where hope and prosperity thrived, inspiring others to believe in the beauty of possibility.   Therefore, Her tragic demise at the hands of Kharae, the God of All Things Evil and Corruptive, devastated Myrtha. His overwhelming sorrow unleashed a lethal plague that ravaged the world, decimating thousands of lives and turning the once-thriving landscape into barren stretches of brown and grey.   Once the plague was over, Myrtha transferred the final remnants of His wife's divine essence to His youngest daughter Fugao'Olaga, appointing her as the new goddess of Nature and Life. With her new powers, she restored Myrtha to its former glory.

Malama, God of Light and the Sun

Malama is responsible for guiding the sun across the sky, creating the rhythm of day and night for our world. His warm rays nurture the earth, bringing life to plants and animals alike, while also symbolizing hope and renewal. Worshippers often gather at sunrise to give thanks for his light, seeking blessings for the day ahead. Consequently, after his death, a shadow descended upon Myrtha, casting doubt and despair amongst its people. Without Malama's guiding light, the once vibrant lands fell into obscurity, and the cycle of day and night became erratic, leaving the inhabitants yearning for the warmth and security they had lost.   Fortunately, the darkness was only temporary. Just a few years later, the inhabitants of Myrtha celebrated the long-anticipated return of the sun with joy. Their cherished deity had fused his essence with the sun, allowing him to perpetuate his divine responsibilities. As the first rays broke through the horizon, a sense of hope and renewal swept over the land, and the once-dim fields bloomed with colour once more. The people gathered in celebration, chanting praises to honour the enduring spirit of Malama that had guided them back to the light.

Manu'Anui, God of Prosperity and Fortune

Manu'Anui dedicates his days bestowing prosperity and good fortune on those he considers worthy of success. He traverses the land, offering wisdom and encouragement to those striving to achieve their dreams. With each encounter, he weaves a tapestry of hope and determination, inspiring others to pursue their passions with unwavering resolve. In the same vein, he unleashes misfortune upon the wicked. His presence becomes a storm cloud over those who exploit others, bringing chaos to their carefully laid plans. As he moves from village to village, tales of his actions spread like wildfire, igniting a sense of both fear and admiration among the people.   They speak of him in hushed tones, wondering who he might target next, yet secretly yearning for his intervention against their oppressors. In their hearts, they know that his balance of mercy and justice reflects a deeper truth about the world's complexities.

Mamami, Goddess of Purity and Innocence

Mamami's primary divine responsibility is to protect the innocence and purity of Myrtha's creatures and land. She watches over their every move, ensuring that the delicate balance of their existence is maintained. With each passing day, her influence strengthens, fostering harmony and nurturing the bonds among them.   Her dominion over innocence has also rendered her a steadfast guardian of children. She guides their laughter and dreams, ensuring that their pure little hearts remain filled with wonder and joy. In this role, Mamami becomes a beacon of hope, illuminating the path toward a brighter future for all under her watchful gaze.   Yet, beneath her gentle exterior lies a fierce determination to protect what she holds dear. She understands that even in a world that appears idyllic, uncertainty lurks beneath the surface. Thus, the light she radiates is crucial for uplifting the spirits of those she holds dear.

Important Landmarks

While there are a huge number of notable landmarks, these three are inarguably the most significant.

The Shrine of Myrtha

The Shrine of Myrtha is a gargantuan tree located at the heart of the realm. Its bark is adorned with intricate carvings featuring a multitude of messages from the God of All Things Good and Pure. These inscriptions encompass everything from journal entries and profound wisdom to ancient incantations and quotes from other deities. While there are thousands of messages etched into its surface, only a tiny fraction have been translated.   This sacred shrine was erected in memory of the fallen deity and is frequented by hundreds of visitors who come to pray and present diverse offerings. Among the vibrant offerings left at the base of the tree are finely crafted trinkets, fragrant herbs, and even heartfelt letters. Each piece represents the hopes and dreams of those who seek the blessings of Myrtha, imbuing the shrine with an aura of reverence and connection.

The Hand of Creation

The Hand of Creation, aptly named, is a colossal hand located beneath an intricate labyrinth of caves. It is thought to be the remnant of Mytharae, the First God, who rests partially entombed within the cavern. The legends tell of how the hand once shaped the world itself, leaving behind traces of magic infused within the very stone. Many seekers of power venture into the caves, hoping to discover the secrets that lie dormant in Mytharae’s grasp.   This sacred site serves as a revered place of worship for Mytharae, drawing thousands of visitors daily who engage in a myriad of rituals and vibrant celebrations. Among the rituals, the most notable is the Festival of Awakening, where acolytes gather to chant ancient hymns in hopes of revitalising the dormant magic. As the sun sets, the air fills with the haunting melodies that echo through the cavern's depths, resonating with the energy of long-lost divinity.

Graves of the Ulumatua

The graves of the ulumatua serve as the final resting places for these primordial beings—the original creatures brought into existence in this realm and the forebears of many contemporary life forms. No grave is the same. They can range from immense boulders and soaring hills to meandering rivers and even delicate blooms.   Each grave is marked with intricate symbols and offerings, honouring the unique essence of the ulumatua. Over time, these sacred sites have become places of pilgrimage for those seeking wisdom and connection to their ancestral roots.
