The Traders' Union of Miranthor

The Traders' Union of Miranthor is a powerful collective of thriving cities and settlements in the eastern region of Terathis. Formed initially by the strategic alliance of the three largest cities, Glila, Lundrheim, and Frostvine, the Union has since expanded its reach, enveloping numerous towns and settlements under its protective and profit-driven wings.   At the heart of the Union's governance is the system of representation. Each city within the Union appoints a Thane, a leader who represents the city's interests within the Union's collective governance. This system, while ensuring a voice for each member city, also fosters a competitive environment as each Thane seeks to secure the best deals and benefits for their respective cities. One notable exception to this rule is the city of Frostvine. Frostvine is unique in its adherence to a monarchical system, holding steadfast to the traditions of the Frostborne Dynasty. Sovereign Elira Frostbourne, the reigning monarch, takes on the role of Frostvine's representative within the Union.   The Traders' Union has evolved into a vital economic powerhouse. Cities and settlements yearn for treaties with the Union, drawn by the promise of economic prosperity. Joining the Union tends to bring an influx of wealth and resources, a significant boon to any growing city. The Union's extensive trading network and its mastery over market dynamics serve to amplify the profitability of each of its member cities.   However, the Union's model isn't without its drawbacks. Membership brings with it not just profits but also responsibilities, namely in the form of taxes and tariffs. Cities and settlements struggling to keep up with their obligations to the Union can find themselves in a precarious position, needing to sell off valuable resources to meet their financial obligations to the Union.   Moreover, the Union's economic model has given rise to considerable economic disparity within its territories. As the wealth of cities and their elite grows, so too does the gap between the rich and the poor. This is particularly pronounced in towns unable to keep pace with the Union's relentless drive for growth. The prosperity of the Union can be a double-edged sword, bringing wealth to many while simultaneously exacerbating social inequality.   In spite of its complexities, the Traders' Union of Miranthor remains a powerful force on the continent. Through its bustling markets, relentless drive for growth, and clever economic strategies, the Traders' Union secured its dominance in the region.   The Traders' Union and the Estari Dominion, while maintaining a façade of cordiality, grapple with an undercurrent of friction, primarily surrounding the contentious issue of the The Disputed Lands.   The Union asserts that the Disputed Lands are a part of Miranthor and thus open to Union treaties. They see the territories as inherently autonomous, aligning with the Union's principle of promoting trade and economic growth. One such example is the town of Avoreen, which the Dominion has had designs on since the days of Vale's Conquest. The Traders' Union is currently in talks with the leaders of Avoreen to negotiate a treaty to induct the town into the Union.   The Dominion considers these lands as imperial territories, dismissing the Union's claims as attempts to legitimize defiance of the crown. The issue of Avoreen encapsulates this struggle; the Dominion covets the halfling town's fertile lands and strategic location, pushing for annexation under the premise of enforcing royal law. This puts Avoreen in a precarious situation, with its leaders considering Union treaty negotiation as a safeguard against the Dominion's pressure, even while desiring to maintain their independence.   The Union's dealings with the Freeholds of Celestia adds another layer of complexity to the nations' diplomatic relations. Despite officially agreeing to the Dominion's embargo against the Freeholds, the Union discretely engages in trade with them. This creates a duality in the Union's stance, openly endorsing the embargo for diplomatic appearances, while surreptitiously undermining it.     City and settlements within the Traders' Union:
