Belaern Drya'alis
(a.k.a. (formerly) Pirate King Nightshade)
The former pirate king, known as the Nightshade, was a feared drow sailor and deadly pirate to encounter on the high seas at night. He's been retired for several decades and has built up the port city of Siren's Flight and a naval fleet to defend his homeland, the Sheikar Badlands.
While he was feared for many centuries as the greatest pirate in the world, he came to prominence just under 100 years ago when he helped to end the Seige of Renault's Bay in 2,461 PR (16,622 DR). He led his organization of pirate fleets against another armada of pirates, led by the Butcher of the Willow Depths, claiming they were not pirates but murderers that needed to be put down. The organization Belaern left behind set simple rules of engagement for pirates, the Privateer's Union.
Even those who hate pirates find themselves with a high level of respect for this man, and to this day, pirate colonies are not generally attacked by organized military.
