Kingdom of Angmar

The Kingdom of Angmar is one of several political entities centered around the Witch Keep of [Angmar. During the Third Age two separate kingdoms of Angmar have existed.

The First Kingdom of Angmar (890-925)

The first kingdom of Angmar was established by the necromancer Angmar, when he erected the Keep of Angmar and proclaimed himself Witch King. He led a combined host of undead and Nordmarian orcs against the men of Geldrin and the dwarves of the Kingdom of Mazaar. In the end he was defeated and his keep and kingdom razed. The Angmarian orcs dispersed over the Dragontail mountains and waited for their chance.

The Second Kingdom of Angmar (1195-1395)

That chance came after the terrible curse of the Girger. With the Kingdom of Thedas in ruins, the province of Geldrin was weak. The Angmarian orc chieftain Thorek seized upon this possibility and seized control of the land. He restored the keep of Angmar to its former glory and crowned himself the new Witch King. Imbued with eternal life by his former master he ruled for 200 years. In 1353 he sent his brothers Uruk and Varkrass across the Red Waste with a sizeable horde. Here they established the Angmarian kingdoms of Orcia and Orsinium. These however became separate political entities, mainly because of the vast desert that separated them from their homeland.
As the army of Angmar was depleted by this expedition, clans of Wildlings (mostly former residents of Thedas) seized upon this opportunity to conquer large parts of Geldrin. What followed was an uneasy coexistence between these Bands of Brothers and Thorek. This equilibrium was broken when The Night's Watch entered the scene in 1395. At this point Thorek had started invoking the spirit of the necromancer Angmar back to Mundus. Marcus Vardenfell allied with most Bands of Brothers and laid siege to the keep of Angmar. In a fierce duel eventually Vardenfell succeeded in slaying Thorek, thereby ending the Second Kingdom of Angmar.
