Shar Umrion

Shar Umrion is the capital of the elven realm of Telion. It was built in ancient times by the elves whose descendants would come to be known as the melorari.
Etymology
The city is named after the river Umrion, the shores of which the city is built on. In elven its name means "Home by the calm waters".
Geography
The city sits on the southern shores of the Sea of Telion situated in a sheltered bay. The river Umrion cuts through the city's northern half, while the southern sits on a great wooded hill. The city is divided into the following wards:
  • Eldershore. The oldest settled site in the city, today a beautiful commercial waterfront district. Few buildings survive from the days of old, a notable exception being the old stone bridge which has remained in remarkably good shape over a millenia of use.
  • Elgyn's Rise. The district encompasses the great hill upon which the oldest and grandest buildings of the city are built. A great temple dedicated to the goddess Onora can be found here. Several different buildings have served as the homes of the city's seneschals across the years, and they have been faithfully preserved in their original style.
  • Noonsong. A small district wedged between the north wall and the river Umrion, it has was originally a district of labourers or craftsmen, whose workshops have made way for the fine villas and grand houses of wealthier citizens. Its name comes from the tradition of spending the day's hottest hours in communion and song, and it is said that in the old times the song of the elven craftsmen of Noonsong would echo across the city.
  • Wealdwall. For most of its history, Wealdwall was more wild, neutral ground than a proper district. The leaders of the city came here to settle grievances and make agreements with wild creatures which could still be reasoned with. As these monsters relocated in the way of the expanding city (or were driven away), the district transformed into a wooded residential district, and was walled off from the wild forests which lay beyond.
  • Demographics
The city is home to over twenty four thousand citizens, a vast majority of which are melorari elves, with a notable minority of aetheleans present as well. Other Kith make up an insignificant percentage of the population, mostly in the form of wealthy traders and connoisseurs of elven culture.
