Imperial Aurum

Imperials living in the central principality are almost the perfect example of a standard human their height is average as is their physique. Their phenotypical characteristics are as varied as the human race, this is due to the multicultural history of the region.

Economy

The climate in the region is mild favoring cultivation, and the region is rich in rare metals such as gold, copper, and gold, hence the name Aurum.

Government

The culture is still deeply feudal and the region is divided into duchies that contain counties that are made of baronies, these baronies may or may not supervise other smaller villages. Some duchies are directly under the control of the Empire, some are under the control of the kingdom of Aurum, and some baronies are leased to the church so they do not report to their nominal county. The hierarchical structure is thus so an elder is a commoner who manages a small village under a barony, a baron is a lower noble who manages a small fortified town under a county, a count is a noble who manages a larger walled town usually with a fort or castle as a residence and reports to a duke which is the highest title in the nobility before the monarch or emperor, a duke manages a well-fortified city with an imponent castle as a residence, the duke follows orders only from the monarch of Aurum or the Emperor depending if its dukedom is Imperial or managed by the kingdom. This hierarchy is at the center of law in the kingdom of Aurum, and one cannot disregard the proper chain of command unless he possesses a written mandate with the seal of the proper authority, in this sense a duke may not order a baron unless he has the express permission of the count presiding that barony and a baron may not present a duke with inquiries and problems that need to be solved without permission from their count.

Military

Each noble is required by law to keep a standing army its size is determined by the rank of the noble barons are required to keep an army of 200 soldiers, counts of 500, and dukes 1000, armies of lower nobles are counted for their liege for example a count with three baronies under him each with 200 soldiers already possesses an army of 600 soldiers so he does not need to keep additional forces. These numbers are the minimum legally required meaning that most nobles field armies larger than this, especially in times of inter-regional war. Other than this standing army the law permits the conscription of healthy citizens ages 16 to 45, but these being untrained commoners, it is done only in large arduous conflicts, and usually conscripts serve a backline role, either defending the artillery or operating the supply lines. Volunteers can also be counted for in case of war, the region pays volunteers well, and the test to become a volunteer is not too difficult, nevertheless volunteers are much better trained and equipped than conscript and can see service on the frontlines.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

The Kingdom of Aurum used to be a multicultural and xenophile society but after the teachings of the church of the white flame became predominant in the region that attitude is reserved only for the races blessed by the Goddess, these include all types of humans, dwarves but not duergars, halflings, gnomes, grey orcs, leonins and recently goliaths. Half-elves and tieflings are barely tolerated and any other race can expect to be chained and sold on the slave market or killed outright by an angry mob. The major presence of the church means a strong inquisitorial presence in all the settlements, even the minor ones, so mages are killed or sanctioned immediately. Citizens from the free city of the not-so-welcomed variety have found a loophole in the imperial law since property is one of the strongest rights in the empire, they produce a document of ownership by a company or individual residing in one of the free cities, which states an exorbitant value for their person, this way should anyone harm them they would be legally obliged to pay a fee proportional to the damage done to the owner, this has also given rise to fraud where usually green orcs taunt imperial farmer to provoke a violent reaction that usually results in the farmer losing his farm to the "owner" of the orc that coincidentally it's either the orc himself through a company or a dear friend of his. Imperials both the central principality and the remaining territories of the kingdom of Aurum are deeply bureaucratic, the capital alone holds 32 courthouses. This means that diversely from the majority of the empire where one can learn the laws well enough to defend himself, in Aurum and the central principality is customary to hire a lawyer.
