Sewing

Sewing involves the use of a needle (almost exclusively made of bone) and loose thread (see spinning) in order to repair tears in Stenza garments. Woven fabrics are already designed to be hardy, and insulating mesh has the unique property of self-repair--but only at certain places along the body for ease of removal or using the restroom. However, these garments still tear, and so it is common for Stenza to know how to sew at least enough to patch up such tears (or thin places if they can be spotted).   Stitches are chosen for their suitedness to a given task (holes caused by wear are treated differently than deliberate tears by the actions of pups or through environmental hazards such as rocks or loose fragments of metal).

Utility

A sewing kit is a common accoutrement of the soldier, who uses it to repair tears in their insulating mesh caused by the hazards of war and prolonged use. The mesh can self-repair at certain points but the mechanism can also sustain wear and become less effective with time.   In civilian life, sewing is commonly used to repair garments such as the deka or other everyday garments. Special needles and sinew threads exist for mending leather such as the takhasar, including reaffixing loose bone decoration.
