Personal history

Dwayne, along with his brother Ricky and their mother had fled from Muxter to Earth when the boys were at a young age, in order to avoid the many fires in The Nine Systems from outright hostile leadership to the brewing threat of home-brewed terrorist organizations. The family settled in a quiet Arizona town and lived out their lives in relative peace until the year 2464 (locally 1983).   The summer of that year, Dwayne was abducted from his job as a gas station attendant and had been missing for almost two weeks, only to be recovered miles away close to the Grover family home. Ricky waited with him for almost twenty-four hours while Dwayne recovered enough to eat, and they concocted a story to tell the police that would mask the fact that the three Muxterans had been passing as human for decades. Ricky claimed to police and UFO investigators of all stripes that Dwayne only remembered enough of the encounter to give a rough rendition of a star map, despite the best efforts of hypnotists and abduction researchers.   The lie is perpetuated to this day by UFOlogists and is especially touted as a hallmark abduction case, but it masks a sinister truth.   Dwayne remembers everything, and has confided in Ricky and their mother that he had been held captive for long enough to forget when day began and night ended, by a mysterious perpetually-smiling entity and a whole host of machines that poked, prodded, and examined him for hours at a time. He had attempted to escape twice, and during one of those had caught a glimpse of the craft's navigation system (how he could generate the image of the star map). Both times he was caught, and the second time he was severely wounded and left for dead as a message to his family.   Ricky had taken him inside, performed the best medicare possible with the supplies available, and he and his mother began working on a plan while they boiled the soup.   Their mother took the truth to her grave, and it appears that Ricky and Dwayne will, too.

This is interesting. Poor Dwayne, though. :( The mysterious figure seems terrifying. D:

He is. A somewhat obscure figure connected to the Mothman legend is an alien named Indrid Cold, who constantly smiles and communicates telepathically. One of the major witnesses to this alien, his daughter was straight terrified of the entity and thought it was evil.
