Krenshiw Manor Building / Landmark in Moudon | World Anvil

Krenshiw Manor

Once the home of the illustrious Krenshiw family, the house and compound has remained empty for a number of years now. There is a lot of controversy on how and why House Krenshiw fell but the evidence has glaring holes. There is also a famed missing treasure of the family that many have tried to find since.   What is known for sure is that the Krenshiw family had been very powerful in the founding of Omarop and had remained almost above the law for a number of decades. In fact, the main matriarch had been the first Head of Council in the beginning of Omarop. They had seen to it that the Reszich Order was embraced by the city, that the docks expanded and thrived and that the Jrysper District was built up. However, with the waning of the aristocracy with the first attempt at industrialization with the use of magic and coal, Krenshiw only built their name throughout Moudon by starting the creation of the first trans-state railway system. It was supposed to connect Moudon in a way that was even accessible to the working class, a true work of ingenuity. Unfortunately, Krenshiw luck finally hit a snag. The stocks and investments of the family started to go up in smoke as coal revealed itself to be too dangerous a resource to use and the Dry Spell began. Then there were a series of deaths in the family including the Matriarch at the time. The matriarch’s will was never found and there was infighting among the still living members. One by one those members also perished by various means until only one member was left, Precilla Krenshiw, who married a commoner and left Omarop altogether.

Purpose / Function

For centuries Krenshiw Manor was a testament and home to the wealth and philanthropy of the House Krenshiw. Over time, as the family fell from grace it became a den of death and unspeakable horrors underneath a thin veneer of expensive trappings. Then eventually it became a beautiful but terrifying ruin that has no particular purpose with no deed or heir apparent. It is the subject of legendary treasure hidden in its depths.

Alterations

The exact alterations of the building and surrounding lands are less and less known over the years. Some suspect that the Matriarch’s will exists in one of the many hidden rooms of the manor along with whatever wealth still remained of the family. There was an item known as the Krenshiw Key that is said to unlock and reveal many of the hidden rooms. However, over the years, it is thought that some creature or a group of beings have made the manor their home and transformed it into a maze of traps and death from which very few escape. All leave empty-handed.

Architecture

Made in the classic Omarop Style, the Krenshiw Manor boasts four minarets with trazlucerne tops that glint opalescent blue. The manor is a compound of four wings with cardinal gardens that were once the talk of Omarop and a central building that held the head of the House Krenshiw and their immediate family. The branches of the family were relegated to the other wings with each themed after the elements. Alabaster and marble are the primary building material, allowing the manor to stand the test of time despite more fifty years of neglect.

Defenses

Various traps, dead ends, and hidden rooms make navigating Krenshiw Manor a bit of a nightmare. Though the glass of many of the windows are broken and hastily shuttered up, none who enter the house seem to be able to get the drop on the squatters in the manor.

History

Once the home of the now all but extinct House Krenshiw, most of the known history around the house is in its more recent years. It went from a jewel of the city to a curse upon the Jrysper District and an unsightly reminder of its seedier side.   The controversy of the manor comes in the will left behind and the truth behind all the deaths of the family members. Many felt that the Krenshiw made a deal with some sort of creature for their continued wealth and luck until the deal was broken or the creature came to collect. The remaining member of the family after the murder of the clan, Precilla, is mired in some mystery as well. Precilla’s whereabouts after leaving Moudon through the Sigmi Docks are unknown and many theorize that she was killed to complete the cycle of deaths. Others say that Precilla took the fortune altogether and has assumed a new identity elsewhere, having killed her entire family.   There is even question if anything really remained of any of their wealth or material. Though the house still stands the rooms have largely been empty since Precilla left. Some thieves have reportedly gone in and come out with little, having encountered nothing but old derelict rooms and halls. Many thieves have gone in and never come out again. Only one or two coming back with tales and wounds that speak of a terrible evil in the house.   The house has never been on the market, considered a sort of unofficially government owned site until which time an heir apparent can be found.

Tourism

Mostly, the Krenshiw Manor is only visited by those that wish to plunder the supposed riches it holds. There are waves and eddies in the attempts to break into the home and leave rich as the missing pile up and then new tips about where to find the treasure end up circuiting the bars of Moudon.
