Aron St.Beth

Aron's head made solid contact against his captor’s nose- so solid, in fact, that it left his ears ringing. The man recoiled with a grunt, and Aron attempted to escape from his loosened grip. As he shouldered his way out, he had time enough to realize that he had no idea where he was in relation to the cabin door before a second, much rougher set of hands seized his arms.

“Nice job, maybe he won’t be able to flirt as much with a broken nose,” said a smoothly accented female voice from behind Aron. “Unfortunately, you just made this quite a bit harder for yourself.” Her statement was punctuated by a burning sensation across Aron’s wrists, which he realized were the result of ropes now binding his hands behind his back.

“Alright then, get moving, pirate scum,” said the man, “it’s time for you to learn the hempen jig.” With the pressure of a blade at his back, Aron allowed himself to be guided out of his room. As he climbed the stairs to the main deck, he realized that he didn’t hear anyone else besides his two captors. Relief washed over him at the thought that the rest of the crew had managed to escape, quickly followed by a darker thought- what if he was simply the last one they were bringing out?

Jawline is strong but soft, nose is medium and rounded. Large eyebrows, generally look sad/surprised. Large cheeks, small forehead.

Physical quirks

Right handed, nervous but very steady. Walks with a slouch and small strides, though this drops when he's under duress. Fairly clumsy. Horrible liar, always scratches the back of his neck or wrings his hands; an open book in every sense.

Special abilities

Strong Truesight

Apparel & Accessories

Plain clothing, generally worn-in neutral tones. Turtleneck knit sweaters, coveralls, tunic shirts, trousers, boots, wool coat.

Specialized Equipment

Not very proficient in any weapon, although he owns a saber and a knife. Very adept at calligraphy, and keeps a set of pens and inks in his berth. Decent enough at navigation and cartography.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Aron has lived a quiet life, which is honestly pretty suitable to him. He was born into a nondescript family in the nondescript island town of Seavale, from which he's never journeyed far. He's never gone out of his way to seek adventure, as he prefers to feel at home. He feels very connected to his family, which made it even more painful when his brother left home to join a pirate crew. For the next three years, Aron struggled to find a place for himself: he first tried smithing with his father, but quickly changed course and attempted to become a cartographer. Failing at this due to his lack of training, he took up a position as the keeper of the Seavale Lighthouse. Looking out at sea for hours at a time made him realize that his brother was out there, seeing new things and forging a place for himself in the world. This encouraged Aron to take the biggest leap of his life and sign on to Nathanael St.Beth's crew the next time he came to port.

Gender Identity

Male

Education

Roughly 8 years of general education, mostly basics of mathematics, history, science, and religion. Briefly trained in smithing and calligraphy before learning how to keep a lighthouse. Received basic combat and navigational training from his brother Nathan, currently trying to improve upon that.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Tended the Seavale Lighthouse for a year, no ships crashed under his watch.
Plucked up the courage to get out of his comfort zone and join a ship's crew.

Failures & Embarrassments

Seemingly unable of being independent from family and friends.
Left his father behind, alone.

Mental Trauma

Prone to anxiety.

Intellectual Characteristics

Not incredibly smart, but he's good at figuring out puzzles when pressed. His mental strength lies in his common sense and his moral compass- these are hard to budge.

Morality & Philosophy

Aron is essentially neutral good. He's generally opposed to undue violence, but he knows it can sometimes be necessary. Being as passive as he is, he will generally go with the flow unless it strongly offends his sense of right.

Taboos

Killing other than self defense, drinking to excess. (He really is a terrible pirate).

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Aron wants to find a place for himself, as he's always ever just felt lost. Though he cares for others, he doesn't consider himself a particularly good caretaker, and he's trying to behave more selfishly in the hopes that he'll make himself fit in.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Good at listening & getting people to talk (whether he wants it or not). Godawful at fighting, dealing with conflict, and making decisions.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes having peaceful moments, downtime. Loves the natural world, loves the connections he has with friends and family. Dislikes drinking and needless trouble/confrontation. Tries to avoid hatred, but he strongly dislikes high and mighty people who don't make an effort to understand anyone other than themselves.

Patient, morally strong, loyal.

Vices & Personality flaws

Too passive, unsure of himself, easily overwhelmed.

Personality Quirks

Resting face always looks surprised or sad, prone to talk too little or far too much.

Social

Religious Views

Social Aptitude

Doesn't stick out at all, a very meek presence. Well mannered, though a bit rustic.

Speech

Quiet, soft voice- can yell quite loud if panicked. Speaks with the accent of a commoner from the North, if slightly more educated.

Author's Notes

Aron is the main character of this story, and as such he's made to be more relatable than the others. He's an outsider in this world of pirates, and many of his ideals go directly against the practice of piracy. He hasn't had time to question this, though, as he was raised alongside the concept of piracy, and he currently cares too much about making a place for himself to really consider it.
