Covenridge
Covenridge, the port city capital of the Kingdom of Ilfor, is a city steeped in both tradition and conflict. Ruled by Governor Brecc Cinaed, it stands as a testament to Ilfor’s complex history with the Oleander Throne and the broader Moontide Isles. Located on the southern shore, with the Aventine Mountains rising to the east, Covenridge is both strategically placed for trade and culturally significant as the seat of Oleander influence in the region.
The Oleander Throne’s presence is most visible in the city’s religious and cultural practices. The All-Father, the god of the Oleander Throne, has become the central figure of worship in Covenridge, replacing the Old Gods once venerated by the Daoine of Ilfor. Temples dedicated to The Allfather dominate the skyline, and the religious traditions of the Old Gods have been systematically erased or repurposed into rituals honoring the All-father. The festival of the harvest, once dedicated to Sucellus, The Bountiful, now bears Oleander symbols, with priests of the Allfather leading the ceremonies in his name. The shifting of these practices has caused tension among those who still quietly remember the Old Gods, though they remain largely subjugated under the weight of Oleander rule.
The architecture of Covenridge reflects this cultural shift. The city’s once humble buildings of stone and wood have been adorned with grander, more imposing Oleander structures, from towering spires to marble temples. The city’s port is the heart of its economy, where ships from the Moontide Isles and Oleander mainland dock to trade goods and wares, but it is also a gateway for further Oleander influence.
Despite the city’s outward loyalty to the Oleander Throne, Governor Brecc Cinaed walks a delicate line. Appointed by the High Queen, he maintains Ilfor’s official allegiance to the Moontide Isles, yet the city’s influence by Oleander power makes it a place of high political tension. His rule, though pragmatic, has often been criticized by those who see him as more of a puppet to the Oleander Throne than a true servant of Ilfor’s independence.
Covenridge is a place where the old and new clash, where Oleander dominance over Ilfor is most strongly felt, and where the culture of the Moontide Isles struggles to survive beneath the shadow of a foreign god. Yet the city thrives as a bustling port, its streets alive with merchants, priests, and citizens who have learned to live with the duality of their home—torn between the traditions of the past and the demands of the future.
