Copperport

The city of Copperport clings to the trade roads leading toward Caer Cenwynn, a practical, soot-streaked settlement built on trade rather than beauty. Its name comes not only from the coppery hues of its stone buildings and rust-red roofs, but from the steady flow of ore that passes through its warehouses and docks each day. From the nearby hills, mine carts creak down narrow switchback roads, bringing iron, copper, and darker metals to be smelted, sorted, and shipped south to feed Caer Cenwynn’s forges. The air smells of salt and metal, and the city hums constantly with the sound of hammers, winches, and merchants haggling over weight and purity.   Much of Copperport’s influence rests in the hands of the D'arlington family, whose holdings include several of the most productive mines in the surrounding hills. Though they rule no keep outright, their wealth gives them quiet authority over contracts, labor, and local politics; few decisions are made without considering how the D’arlingtons might benefit—or retaliate. To the miners, the family represents steady work and harsh oversight in equal measure, while to merchants and nobles they are indispensable partners in keeping Caer Cenwynn supplied. As a result, Copperport occupies a careful balance: not powerful enough to rival the great city to the south, yet far too valuable to be ignored, its fortunes rising and falling with the ore drawn from the hills that loom watchfully above it.
