Caer Allegain

Caer Allegain, the capital of the Kingdom of Down, sits proudly atop a rocky crag that overlooks the crashing waves of the sea to the west. The city's strategic position provides both a breathtaking view and a natural defense against potential seaborne threats. The castle, the residence of Petty King Markos Finhold, is a formidable structure built along the edge of the crag, its towers rising high above the cliffs. The castle is protected by a sturdy stone wall, though its natural location makes it nearly impregnable from the sea below.   The city of Caer Allegain serves as a bustling center of trade, culture, and politics. To the west, a well-maintained port connects the kingdom to distant lands, drawing traders and adventurers alike to its shores. The influence of the nearby Winterglen Forest is felt throughout the city, as many half-elves and adventurous elves from the forest have made their homes here. Their presence adds a sense of magic to the city, and it’s not uncommon to see small gatherings discussing ancient elven lore or arcane secrets in the city's taverns.   To the east lies the Winterglen Forest, while the Daoine town of Caher rests to the south, providing a vital connection to the southern territories. The city itself is a mix of practical stone architecture and more intricate elven-inspired designs, especially in the newer districts where half-elves and elves have settled. The streets are lively, with markets filled with exotic goods from distant lands and wares brought from the elven settlements of Winterglen.   While Caer Allegain is not a city of grand opulence, its rugged beauty and proximity to both sea and forest make it a unique and vital hub in the kingdom. Petty King Markos Finhold rules with a focus on maintaining stability in the region, especially given the complex relationships with the nearby elves of Winterglen, who maintain their independence from human rule. Under his guidance, Caer Allegain has become a place where human ambition and elven magic coexist, if sometimes uneasily, forging a city that reflects both the harshness and wonder of the surrounding lands.
