Marion Alexandrite Dubois (a.k.a. Alex)
Born as the sole child to Arun and Kethryllia Loraxalim in Waterdeep, Marion left the large town comforts of Waterdeep with a purpose. Create a social network of his very own. Abandoning his family name and taking on the surname Dubios, Marion has disclosed his true familial name to a handful of individuals.
From a young age, Marion was raised to connect and to prosper. Always putting himself into situations where others could depend on him, Marion grew up among the rich and powerful. After some heated words with his parents, Marion set out for Mythrite to seek a world beyond his parent's influence. Upon the road, Marion met up with journalist Vomul and they became fast friends. With Vomul came the introduction of Baron something-or-other, although the relationship between them is tricky. Soon after arriving and setting up shop within the Reverie , Marion was taken ill by winter's dying grasp on Mythrite. To not disturb the peace or even inform fellow socialite Croix , Marion hired a private physician Euriel Zander to care for him in his residents without the need to leave and expose his illness to the public. Marion is well aware of the current political situation in Mythrite, and to get connected, a little coin exchanging hands smooths over the roughest bumps. With a burgeoning social network, Mairon looks to seek out members of the Lord's Alliance and get deeply entrenched in whatever networks exist. To that end, he has currently set his sight on Oryn and wants to establish a connection with them. Ultimately, he looks to recruit Bahpa-Maf Nazdi Indiff (Boppa) his side as well. Although not the strongest or healthiest grain in the field, Marion's silver tongue has helped him out of more than a few scrapes, with nearly all participants benefitting in some way. The most important thing is relationships that come through in a pinch. To do this, you establish networks. To do that, you need capital. Some friends are forged through shared interactions, and some are bought. Life is unfair, and some are dealt a better hand than others. Marion is aware of the inequality within Mythrite (as well as the hypocrisy between that and what he claims to want). However, he is also aware that this situation is normal for how life operates. It was like this in Waterdeep where Marion grew up, so why should it be any different here?
Looking out for the underdog and taking bets on people's futures is how Marion was taught to make it. Invest where the payoff will double or triple the principle. Find the place with the highest dividends. Statistics, probability, arithmetic, and public speaking were drilled into Marion from a young age and while he hated the training, he will effectively put it to use here. Marion also knows that opportunities present themselves to those who are prepared. Making connections, surrounding yourself with friends and like-minded individuals create the best opportunities to stand at the top. But what does it mean to stand at the top? What is the point of money and fame? What is the purpose of life? While unimportant, Marion searches for answers even as he rinses and repeats the steps drilled into him since birth.
Holding a moderately well-furnished dwelling in the Reverie provides Marion with access to elves from all walks of life, at any point on the economic and social scale. With enough funds to also make his presence known in Charlamaine Hill. Although not one to normally mix with low brow society, Marion knows the value of finding the diamond in the rough. Finding and polishing is a lifelong task, and there have been stranger tales than the Prince and the Pauper, or Princess and the Frog. Romance is not off the table. Although, what is the difference between a tryst for business and one for pleasure? What is romance at all? Procreation is a necessary part of life, carrying on the family name and legacy. All relationships are just one party using another. The only difference between marrying for politics and marrying for "love" is who benefits. No matter what, all relationships are one party using the other. Sometimes the used parties are hurt by the consequences of the use, and sometimes everyone profits. Life is like that. There is no attachment. Love is superficial, but then why does finding out the truth when a supposed loved one betrays you hurt so bad? Marion is looking for love, for a lasting relationship, but what will come from one so young?
Barely a man at the tender age of 18, Marion has set off to the North to cast off any chains that bound him to Waterdeep and a new story lies just over the horizon that Marion can't wait to be a part of.
