The Polrae Myth in Misty Isle of Harn | World Anvil

The Polrae

The Celaetuath are various spirits and Fae entities from Jarin legends and Folklore. One of the most malevolent and dangerous is the Polrae, more commonly known as the Recaps, due to their reported habit of washing their cap in the blood of the murdered.

The Polrae haunt ruins, caves, and blighted woods, always locations where blood was shed violently. Legend has it that from the blood-stained ground small red mushrooms sprout. When moonlight or fresh blood strikes the mushroom it will explode and a Polrae will appear, ready to commit violence.

The creature looks like a wizened and undersized gnome with a hunched back, heavy metal shoes and a bloody red cap. They wield twisted great sickles made from the weapons of murderers.
