Temple of Peoni - Church of Tomlin the Resilient

A temple of seven priests of the Peoni, of the Irreproachable Order, the male-only order of the Church of Peoni. The temple is named after Tomlin of Tyll, a priest martyred at the spot where the church stands in 693TR, over thirty years ago.

The Barony of Dunir suffered greatly under the rule of the Dark Church when part of the Kingdom of Rethem. Consequently, the priests of this temple are much more militant than you would expect from a religion devoted to peace and pacifism. The good priests of this church call themselves the Brothers of Belsirasin and do not hesitate to capture worshipers of the dark god or spies for the kingdom of Rethem and turn them over to the inquisitors of the Church of Larani.

The priests are masters of the Gently Winding Path, a defensive martial art that uses dodging, twisting, unbalancing, holds, and throws designed to use an aggressor’s strength or mass against him. The priests incorporate this training into daily prayers, which may be considered heretical to some.

Notable members

Pelnala (High Priest) Linaeus Aricolar

High Priest Linaeus Aricolar's sermons are often warlike. He works closely with the Laranians of the nearby Scinaret Abbey to keep the Barony of Dunir free from the malevolent influence of the dark churches. He is a skilled martial artist with a limp from an old injury.

Graveyard

The village graveyard is large and built near a small mausoleum to the martyred Tomlin of Tyll.

Holy Relics

Ashes of Tomlin the Resilient

Tomlin the Resilient was burnt alive by the Copper Hook Army days before Dunir fell to the forces of Kanday, led by the now Baron Yuri Xelados. A covert priest of Peoni, he was also believed to be one of the resistance fighters active in the region at the time and a spy for Kanday. He was captured, but despite prolonged torture and eventual execution at the stake, he never divulged any information about his resistance cell.

A sample of ashes from his funeral pyre is stored in a clay jar. Unfortunately, despite numerous attempts by the Pelnala Linaeus, the Mepeleh (Harnic primate) has opposed Tomlin's canonisation as Tomlin has been accused of “violent acts," although in defense of others.
