Sir Syman Tolfane, the Chabla (Grandmaster) of the Order of the Checkered Shield, is an extremely pious and skilled knight. There are legends of him defeating a horde of demons during Ezar's War, something he half-heartedly denies. Sir Syman is a firm believer in the chivalric code.
He is well-traveled and informed of events outside the kingdom. He sees the Thardic Republic as Kanday's greatest threat believing the black souled Kingdom of Rethem will eventually destroy itself in Civil Wars.
