Part 1 – The Falling Man

Months ago, the heroes recovered salvage from the shipwrecked merchant ship, the Rosmary. These valuable goods are currently being stored in a bonding house waiting for their return to their original foreign owners, for a sizable recovery fee, or if they are unwilling to pay, then the goods can legally be claimed by the party. The party has employed the City of Aleath’s best litigant, Mylene of Sarin, to deal with the complex international commercial and legal issues. They have recently received word that all legalities have been worked out and a small fortune awaits them next time they visit.

The party immediately travels to Aleath and has a pleasant meeting with Mylene. The litigant has extracted an excellent deal from the original foreign owners of the goods, and the party’s coin purses are brimming with gold and silver. The litigant also mentions that one of her clients may soon have a well-paying job for them. With his newfound wealth, Remy spends several evenings gambling in the city’s finest taverns, increasing his fortune. His luck and skills are exceptional.

All too soon, the party decides to return to Eryna Manor. They travel to the docks early in the morning, planning to hire a fisherman to ferry them across the Eryn River. As they walk past a potter’s workshop, owned by Sarel of Lebeque, a bound man falls from the building’s second floor with a sack filled with heavy objects tied around his neck. He lands with a heavy thud. He is dead.

Part 2 – The Summoner

The party springs into action, as nearby bystanders look on stunned. The party soon learn the dead man is the potter Sarel, and the poor man’s head is smashed; however, the heroes think he was probably murdered before being thrown from the upstairs window. The sack contains broken pottery and statuettes. Odin and Abaddon race into the workshop and upstairs.

Remy moves up the wall with the wind behind him and looks through the upstairs window. Inside, he sees a gaunt man and a huge humanoid beast, covered in black fur and all muscle. Both the beast and the man have a red symbol on their forehead, indicating a magical link binds them. The beast must be a summoned creature, an eidolon.

The Summoner is confident, and his eidolon is a powerful savage opponent, easily evading Abaddon’s grapples and smashing Odin. The Odin and Remy attack the Summoner, while Abaddon occupies the beastly eidolon. When injured, the villain saps the strength of his minion to heal his wounds. Eventually, the Abaddon skewers the beast with his ancestral spear, and it disappears in a burst of exoplasm. The Summoner has one trick available; he seeks to escape. Drawing a Scroll (with Dimension Door), he reads the incantations. However, before he finishes, Odin runs him through with his sword.

Part 3 – Investigation

The heroes gather as much information as possible before the town guard arrives. They learn from Sarel’s grieving and terrified wife, who is hiding under a bed, that the murderer was a possible customer who attacked without reason. She and the apprentices downstairs cooperated with the heroes. The business ledger shows many recent donations to the church of Peoni, and several statuettes are unaccounted for and have disappeared. Sarel’s wife mentions that he has been visiting Brother Ortim at the Peoni temple recently, but does not know why; she suspects he has confessed some sin. Also, the party learns that some of the recent statuettes were supplied by Sarel’s brother Vanvic, a fellow potter based in the town of Drysia, and contain hidden cavities. The party suspects these are being used for smuggling.

After meeting with the city guard and being given official permission to investigate, the party visits Brother Ortim at the temple of Peoni. The good priest is shocked to learn of Sarel’s murder and plans to offer the murdered wife what support and guidance he can in this moment of tragedy. Now that Sarel is dead, he is easily convinced to reveal what he said in the confessional, as that information may be used to prevent further death.

Brother Ortim informs the heroes that Sarel has learned his brother Vanvic in Drysia has been involved in smuggling, and being a highly moral man, was deeply troubled. He was agonising as to whether he should inform the authorities.

Part 4 – Signs of an Old Enemy

The party decides to journey to the Town of Drysia. For a change, rather than travel on foot, they hire a portly teamster, Otis, and journey by wagon. In the wilderness, they spot is a disturbing sight, another wagon has been attacked and is a broken wreck, and sadly the guard and driver are dead. As the heroes approach, Abaddon senses that invisible creatures are lurking nearby. Their form is insubstantial but almost snake-like. He immediately attacks.

Edelina, an expert on the god Ilvir's creations, identifies these creatures as Nadrydd, the harvesters of souls. Nadrydd are ethereal Ivashu that roam the Ethereal and Astral planes, gathering unclaimed souls for Ilvir to use in his experiments. The party battles these wraith-like creatures, and with each strike, they induce fear and terror, creating momentary flashes of horrific nightmares. Eventually, the heroes destroy them through good tactics and luck, and their spirits return to their creator to be reformed as new Ivashu.

Investigating further, the wagon has not been looted; only one crate has been opened and is empty. Giant, familiar footprints of an old enemy, those of the troll Shageiros, are found in mud. Shageiros and his master, an insane priest of Ilvir called Xantosa, have been collecting part of the long-dead demigod Obsidipor, planning to revive him. Unfortunately, Shageiros is long gone.

Teamster Otis knows the dead wagon driver and organizes the dealings with his corpse. He is grateful for the hero’s help and will offer them a good rate in the future.

To be continued.
