Session 391 - A Mysterious Note
General Summary
The Story So Far
Ash - An expert in the occult and a skilled monster hunter. Ash uses his talents and budding alchemical expertise to battle what people fear most for a price.
Ryobi - A monk of the embattled Order of the Warriors of Mameka. Ryobi is given an important mission: retrieve the holy blades containing the souls of his brother knights, which were lost in the recent Rethemi civil war.
They are joined by Vinzent, a bard with a morbid demeanor and a haunted past.
This is the continuation of Session 389 - The Dolls.
Location - City of Golotha in the Kingdom of Rethem.
17th Nuzyael (Spring) 728TR
Part 1 – Stop Thief
Vinzent is putting on a superb performance at the Trident Inn. The crowd, including Ryobi and Ash, are in a fine mood and tossing coins in his direction.
Everything is going well until a thief makes an appearance. The cutpurse moves near the stage and grabs Vinzent’s thoughtlessly unattended money pouch. The sharp-eyed minstrel spots the rotter and shouts, “Stop thief, he’s got all my coin,” as the pickpocket runs out the door. Vinzent has all his wealth in the pouch, a small fortune accumulated from years of performance and adventuring. Ryobi and Ash give chase, followed close by Vinzent, who stops to scoop up any remaining coins from the patrons off the stage.
Part 2 – A Chase
The party pursues the thief, who weaves through alleyways and across crowded streets, nearly escaping. He swerves through a gang of belligerent hooligans and a pack of vicious stray dogs. The heroes almost lose him but catch up just as the thief crosses a canal over a series of small boats and barges. Unfortunately, he has found friends, one being a thuggish bruiser and a thin, dirty rogue.
The thieves make their stand on a barge filled with produce, barrels of fruit, and goods destined for the market. The owner makes himself scarce as Ash and Ryobi jump on. A fierce battle ensues, with Ash and Ryobi fighting the men while Vinzent shouts encouragement safely from a distance. Ash quickly cuts down the thief, but his friends are particularly dangerous. The smaller of the two stabbing with uncanny accuracy with his short sword, and the big thug is a very able pugilists. Vinzent then switches his songs of encouragement to a ballad of woe, and the enemy is shaken.
Ryobi, battling the big thug, is well-matched and holds him at bay while Ash deals with the thin thief. The thug is now outnumbered and losing badly. After receiving some well-time blows from Ash and Ryobi, discretion proves the better part of valor, and he runs. He weaves his way through the crowd with remarkable speed, almost disappearing. Vinzent is furious: "That is unacceptable." Grabbing his throwing knife, he mutters a small incantation (True Strike) to focus his aim and target the thief. It will likely hit some poor innocent in the crowd if he misses. But his aim is true; it hits the thug in the back of his neck, instantly killing him.
Vinzent is elated and collects his silver. Ash and Ryobi throw the dead bodies into the canal and prepare to leave. However, at least three dozen witnesses have seen the heroes kill the villains. Ryobi, being a member of the Order of the Warriors of Mameka, who are technically charged with keeping the peace in the city, will not be questioned by the city’s legal authorities. However, how the powerful thieves guild will respond is a different story. Ryobi decides to give the witness a silver piece each for the inconvenience.
Part 3 - A Mysterious Message
A few week later, after a hard day's training, Ryobi returns to his accommodation to find a note on his bed.

I have learned that you are looking for the Mamakan Blades lost during the Battle of Rylosin Forest.
I can help you, I know where and who has one of the swords., the one wielded by the warrior monk Dobrzyn.
Meet me alone at the old watchtower in Ebery near Quiso. We will discuss fair terms.
