Castle Bedenes Settlement in Misty Isle of Harn | World Anvil

Castle Bedenes

Not a place for the Weak.

Some of the inspiration and details are derived from Colombia Games.

Castle Bedenes is held by the Order of the Warriors of Mameka, the strong right arm of the Agrikan primate and the presumed bane of the Kubora Barbarians. However, all is not as it seems. The indestructible reputation of the Order is in tatters as it has been recently revealed that they have suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of these so-called savages. Bedenes is vulnerable to attack.

Industry & Trade

The most significant event in Bedenes is the Annual Beast Fair held at the nearby manor of Emesa. Here trappers and hunters bring bears, night lions, lynx, and exotic Ivashu and chimeras for fodder in the Pamesani Arenas. Pelts of beaver, ermine, otter, sable, and seal are sold to clothiers.

The Mamekans have raided the Kubora Barbarians for decades and capture slaves for sale in the south.

Alesen Manor has a small whaling fleet and exports Whale Oil and Meat.

There are rumors of the rediscovery of old Silver Mine dating back to the days of the Corani Empire. If this were true, it can not be exploited until the current Rethemi Civil war is resolved.

Infrastructure

Caer Bedenes

This castle stands on a basalt outcrop chosen for its natural defensive position. In addition to its formidable defenses, it has a terrifying array of alchemical weapons and artillery.

The House of Ordeals

This fortified training seminary is home to the clerical Order of Mamaka, Master of Steel. Here the Priests of the Order are trained.

Dwelling here is Mamekan, a legendary weaponsmith of Hepekerian descent who crafts the Order’s sacred blades.

History

402TR - The Corani Empire establishes a fort in the Emesa region, which was used as the base of expeditions into northwestern Peran, cumulating in the capture of Kustan in 414TR.

477TR - When Kustan was destroyed, and the Empire abandoned Emesa. Those Imperials who remained traded and intermarried with the Kubora.

588TR - Kuboran warriors from Bendenes aided Hugai Lynnaeus captured Tormau.

675TR - King Nemiran made Emesa the Hundred Moot but failed to rule on the Clan Lynnaeus claims to Emesa.

690TR - The Warriors of Mameka Capture Bedenes, claiming all surrounding lands.

699TR - The captured population of Bedenes completed the construction of Bedenes Castle.

700TR - The Warriors have established chapterhouses throughout the Barony, and the Order of Mamaka, Master of Steel, has set up a seminary.

718TR - An assault on Kustan planned by the Akarata (grandmaster) ended catastrophically. 50 Knights, 100 Common Soldiers joined by 40 Agrikan knights were ambushed by Kubora Barbarians. There were only a few survivors. Since then, the Order has attempted to hide its weakness from its many rivals.

Winter 722TR - A Kuboran barbarians raid strikes deep into Bedenes territory, killing a contingent of Knights and Common Soldiers as well as one of the senior commanders. The whole Barony is under threat (refer to the events of Session 109 - Ambush and Destruction). Word has escaped the catastrophic defeat in 718TR, further damaging the Warrior's reputation.
