Illragorn
Illragorn is a rather rustic settlement tucked away in the northern forest known as the Wild Wood. The city does not resemble any traditional city, but instead gives the appearance or numerous, small communities, known as vicanges, all located within an easy walk of one another. There is seemingly no discernible pattern or plan to the city's layout. Rather, it appears that people simply build where it suits them, and the streets, those that exist, naturally come to be based upon the needs of the residents. While certainly not the largest city in Mistburn, it does have a sizable population of roughly 162,000 souls though with the haphazard, open nature of its layout, the city actually takes up more territory than a city more than twice its size.
The people of Illragorn are as rustic as the city's appearance would suggest. They prefer to stay out of the way of worldly affairs with the common citizen not caring what proclamations the Church of Order has announced, or what newest innovation has come out of the Republic of Emirr. They simply want to live their life, left alone and in peace.
Government
The city of Illragorn is overseen by a body of appointed representatives known as the Collective, a body that currently consists of more than two dozen individuals appointed by each of the recognized vicinages (or neighborhoods) that make up the city. The exact number of of souls that make up this rather informal body varies over time, depending on which vicenages are currently formally recognized.
The Collective is responsible for any issues that can effect Illgragorn as a whole, as well as acting are arbitrators over disagreements that arise between vicinages. Surprisingly, this body has little authority over law and order, as each vicinage is expected to handle that internally. They do, however, control Illragorn's small, standing military, known as the Hunters. This group of seasoned warriors have no authority within any given vicinage, but have great authority in the regions between them, and the surrounding lands. This can change, however, should the Collective decide, by a super-majority vote, that the city faces a existential threat. In the nearly 700 years of history, this has never occurred.
Industry & Trade
Illgragorn would likely barely be noticed if not for its primary export - the wood harvested from the Wild Wood known as dark wood. The name is derived from the rich, dark, hue of the wood that make up the bulk of the trees of the forest. This wood is notable for two reasons. First, is its unique coloration that gives it it's name and second, for the dense, strong, characteristics of the wood. It is both difficult to work with, but also enduring in nature. It can be soaked in water for months, but lose virtually none of its integrity or suffer from the rot most woods would in such circumstances. As such, dark wood is a much sought after construction material and is seen in use across the world. Even the Goliaths of Darkshell, whom are notoriously biased towards working in pure stone and granite, like to incorporate it into their architecture.
