Old Draconic Language in Mirrarium | World Anvil

Old Draconic

Old Draconic is actually still spoken by dragons today, and it remains an important academic language as many non-dragon species also used it for science and literature. The dragons didn't mind lesser species learning their language. Even though dragons learn languages quite easily and took up the languages of the other species for interacting with them, it was still seen as a sign of respect and even deference that the lesser species learned their language.   Some dragons were tyrants, and some were leaders of the lesser species they governed, though many more had little to nothing to do with them. Either way, the other species learned Old Draconic for one reason or another. It is largely through the benevolent rule of some dragons that Old Draconic became such an important language for literature and science. The Love story of T'lula'taku and the Aleated Ceraclops was originally told in Old Draconic, and a lot of the earliest notes of the Order of Aleftav were also recorded in Old Draconic.   Even today, one can learn the language at institutions such as the Androcas University of Higher Mysteries, although that focuses on the literary and scientific form used by other species, which over time became close to its own dialect distinct from the language that the dragons themselves used.
