The Thaedi

Overview

The Thaedi or Haedi, anglicised as Thadians, are a people who inhabit a large part of the western region of Nirann. They descend from several groups, most notably the Ingharans, Soranni, Siri, Gentari, and other Ukorin peoples; their ancestry is primarily Ingharan and Gentari-Ukorin.
They are known for being one of the great imperial cultures of the continent as they are the center of a great kingdom that has lasted since the late Soranni period. The Thaedi population is perhaps the largest Niranni population on the continent due to the fact that they live along the great western fertile river plains. The name Thaedi comes from Thae, meaning people.

Subgroups

The Thadians have several different subgroups depending on the region that the people are from. These groups are the Sulhae, Athhae, Katchae, Jahhae, and Humhae.
The Sulhae, or people of the spear, is the name used to refer to the northernmost group found along the lake. They are renowned warriors among the Thadians and have been a backbone of the imperial Thadian militaries.
The Athhae, or people of the sword, are the largest group of Thadians and are found along the central river valley. They are known for aspiring to imitate eastern values and culture but are ironically are seen as the center of western culture. They carry a friendly demeanor typically.
The Katchae, or people of the dagger, are those who live on the western coastal cities. These cities are renowned for intrigue and trade deals, and so outright war is less common here. This is why they earned the name the dagger people.
The Jahhae, or people of the sling, are those found sharing the southern valley with the Dazin. They are stereotypically seen as backwards and poor hunters while slings are seen as primitive and ancient, which is how the Jahhae got their name.
The Humhae, or people of the bow, are those found along the northern marshes where the river meets the sea. They are known for being isolationist and tribal, resisting imperial control whenever they can and hiding in the marshes. This guerilla nature granted them their name.
The last people of this group are the Vaenhae, meaning the shield people. They are the Thadians native to the mountains of the east. They are known for being aggressive and rude.

Culture

Diet

Thaedi culture is highly dependent on grains like rice and wheat, as well as a variety of animal products such as beef, pork, cheese, and milk; the Thaedi are some of the largest consumers of pork and beef on the continent. In terms of fruits and vegetables, the Thaedi also consume a large variety of nuts, tree fruit, and gourds.

Clothing

Thaedi clothing is often made of linen, pelts, wools, and sometimes silks due to the locally available resources. Thaedi shirts are typically divided in the center or on the left side, and they also prefer short sleeved vests with longer undercoats; the Thaedi typically dont wear overcoats all that often in comparison to their neighbors. The only kind of pants that are found among the Thaedi are a baggy type of pants,

Hair

Thaedi hair is often kept shorter than their Auri counterparts, however short hair is still a sign of a criminal. Most noble men keep their hair long and braided while the sides remain shaved. Most noble women pull their hair back, and decorate it with colorful ties and pins.

Architecture

Concerning the construction of major structures in the Thadian region, often domes will be used. Thadian domes differ from Anesari and Sitiric domes due to their flat nature which originates partially in the Ingharan dome building tradition that largely died out with the exception of the pointed domes in Soranna.
As for common structures, stone and brick structures are some of the most common in the region with upper floors often being wood or clay. The roof style of these structures often follows a flatter tile style, with the shape being usually gabled in the cities, with a combination gable being common in the countryside.

History

The Thadians are primarily descendants of the Ingharans who migrated west and intermixed and replaced the native, largely Ukorin, population; the Ukorins themselves were part Siri, with other minor admixtures such as the Sau and Erhai. They displaced the other Niranni of the region and created a culture around the rivers, splitting into various groups like the Dazin, Rulagi, and others.
Over time, the people stayed in their clanlike ways, but now the idea of a great unified kingdom spread from the east. This culminated in the Thadian state of Kurthae, which elects it's monarchs through a meeting of all the clans.
In the modern day, the Thadians are a strong but unstable people who struggle to protect themselves from outside influence and civil conflicts.
