Valerianum is a small quaint, serene village nestled amidst rolling hills and lush landscapes. The area where the village is now located was once covered in thick forests, by the time the Dercians came to the area, they recognized the place as a potential place for a settlement and as the legions moved further away, a few veterans, wounded and other followers, stayed behind to set up a settlement at the place.
Over the years, Valerianum would evolve into a small but thriving community, it would be flourishing over the years due to its strategic location at a place where several roads cross, likewise, there are two rivers flow into a larger one, and both roads and rivers brought plenty of trade to the village.
Due to the village being founded by veterans of the legions, the military traditions can still be observed in daily life as every weekend the young boys and girls are gathered on a nearby field where they are given physical training and education in tactics, this both serves as a way to install some discipline in the young people but also as every year there are some of the young ones that decide to leave the village to join the legions. The village believes that it is worth the usage of their time as those who join the legions are given a better chance in handling the trials and do well afterwards.
Like many of the villages founded by legions, the veterans who settled and founded Valerianum brought diverse experiences and cultural influences from their service across the
Kingdom of Dercia who were slowly turning into the
Empire of Dercia in terms of its expansion. All these differences can be seen in Valerianum, while the Dercian or rather the style of
Pearlhal can be seen, small differences such as how the roofs were differences and their vineyards are done in a different style than what can be found in the area around Pearlhal.
Surrounded by verdant fields and vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see, Valerianum boasts a close-knit agrarian community, with skilled farmers cultivating the land to yield an abundance of crops that sustain the villagers and contribute to the empire's granaries.
The architecture in Valerianum reflects its Dercian influence, characterized by sturdy stone structures adorned with intricate mosaics and frescoes depicting scenes from ancient myths and daily life. A small temple jointly dedicated to
Solaria and
Mara, graces the outskirts, symbolizing the villagers' reverence for the bounties of the earth and their patron goddess as Dercians.
Many of the veterans that settled, had some skills acquired during their service, such as construction, engineering, or strategic planning. Valerianum benefits from a well-built infrastructure, robust buildings, and a well-laid village plan due to its veteran's expertise.
It sounds peaceful. I wouldn't mind living here.
